Senior Biomedical Research Scientist/Biostatistician

The National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Center for Cancer Research (CCR) seeks a senior Biostatistician to provide statistical leadership for major activities of the CCR.

The selected individual will serve as the most senior advisor on matters pertaining to experimental design, data analysis, and other biostatistical issues within the CCR. They will be responsible for all analytic aspects of a major portion of the clinical trials conducted, and the development of innovative designs for clinical trials conducted by the CCR of NCI. This position is pivotal in providing authoritative statistical advice and consultation to branch chiefs, section heads, and other senior staff of the CCR. The selected individual will also act as senior advisor on biostatistics as a member of the Scientific Review Committee that evaluates all clinical trials within the CCR, collaborate with researchers on medical, scientific, and statistical publications, and use advanced statistical methods to answer important questions arising from laboratory, clinical, and pathologic investigations. The selected individual may also devote some time to conduct independent statistical methodologic or applied research of their own or in collaboration with investigators within or outside of the NCI, including the opportunity to collaborate with a larger biostatistics community within the NCI.

The CCR is an intramural research component of the NCI located in Bethesda, Maryland. CCR’s enabling infrastructure facilitates clinical studies at the NIH Clinical Center, the nation's largest hospital devoted entirely to clinical research; provides extensive opportunities for collaboration; and allows scientists and clinicians to undertake high-impact laboratory- and clinic-based investigations. Our research teams offer well over 300 clinical research trials and annually open over 50 new trials and enrolls 1,300 new patients. Clinical investigators are supported by a wide array of supportive clinical resources including data management, research nursing, patient care coordination, education, protocol development support, patient referral and outreach, and technology transfer collaborations with industry. The CCR is highly committed to and is taking actionable steps to create a fully equitable work environment, build a diverse cancer research workforce, expand health disparities research, and improve patient representation in clinical trials. Our scientists enjoy complete intellectual freedom and are expected to creatively and innovatively explore the most important questions in the field of cancer research and treatment. We support projects over a long-time horizon allowing our investigators to pursue some of the most difficult, high-risk problems in the field.
