Senior Bi Engineer

We are looking for a Senior BI Engineer for a 6 month +, Hybrid, W2 contract.

Location: Chicago, IL or Cincinnati, OH (Must be on-site 3 days a week)

Must be a US citizen or Green Card holder. No 3rd party C2Cs please.

Job Summary:

A product (customer analytics solution) utilized by thousands to access data and reporting insights is being replaced. The on-premise and 3rd party technologies will be deprecated and replaced with this system that is being developed in-house. Cloud migration will allow for greater degrees of interoperability. The new product will simplify and streamline reporting and reimagine and enhance key capabilities (like exports and custom attributes). This new product will deliver new capabilities for customers, create a better user experience, and maximize data reuse, composability, and discoverability.

• Create interactive visuals
• Connect to data sources
• Add hierarchies, dimensions, and metrics
• Provide input and recommendations on technical issues to data engineering and software engineering teams
• Contribute to data design, data modeling, and data extracts/transforms

As a BI Engineer, you will design, implement, and maintain systems used to collect and analyze business intelligence data. You will create dashboards, databases, and other platforms that allow for efficient collection and evaluation of BI data. Work closely with other departments and stakeholders to gain an understanding of BI goals and objectives to ensure the systems and their capabilities support competitive research efforts that achieve those goals.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• BS in Computer Science or a related field or years of equivalent work experience may be substituted.
• Must have Business Intelligence (BI), Enterprise Data Warehousing (EDW), and ETL type background
• Expert working knowledge of SQL and experience writing complex SQL queries
• At least 3+ years of work experience writing and debugging advanced SQL queries (ETL, Data Modeling, Data Mining, etc.) with large-scale, complex data sets
• The candidate must be well-versed in cloud solution technologies, preferably Azure
• Proven senior-level experience deep diving into massive data sets to answer key business questions using SQL and other data manipulation languages
• Strong analytical mindset, ability to decompose business requirements into an analytical plan, and execute the plan to answer those business questions
• Promote standards and best practices in data modeling, ETL and report development
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills - must be able to articulate why certain choices or trade-offs were made for the data mode
• Ability to Work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented, rapidly changing environment.
• Experience with Terraform would be helpful
• Experience with GitHub / Actions would be helpful
