Senior Bi Developer (Remote)

The First Citizens BancShares’ Enterprise Risk Management (FCB ERM) function rolls up under Chief Risk Officer. ERM is responsible for building the vision, roadmap, and implementation of the FCB’s Second Line risk management capabilities with the focus on program management, regulatory and audit engagement, reporting and analytics, communication, and training, The mission of the ERM is to maintain a strong and consistent risk management environment through a customer-centric approach that aligns with each line of business, function, and region to mitigate risks.

The Senior BI Developer is a key role within the ERM’s Analytics and Automation team. The BI Developer we seek will work on a team responsible for developing sophisticated dynamic dashboards as well as defining data, tooling and reporting automation strategies for the ERM. Given the responsibility and high pace of the role, the ideal candidate should have the experience and skills needed to contribute to the continuous maturation of the department and the overall ERM risk management capabilities.

In addition to understanding risk management within a large financial services institution, the Senior Risk BI Developer will require a solid knowledge of BI automation, data management, and data accuracy best practices to develop BI reporting solutions in support of risk management programs.

*This position can work remote from anywhere within the United States.

More specifically, the Senior Risk BI Developer will be responsible for:

1. Requirements Gathering:

As part of the Agile pod, engage directly with first and second lines’ stakeholders, to understand reporting business requirements. Proactively ask detailed questions to discern not only the business current needs, but also anticipate future challenges and assess potential solutions.

1. Data Exploration:

Conduct a comprehensive analysis of data sources including reverse engineering of physical data models from databases, SQL scripts, etc. to assess data accuracy, relevance, and comprehensiveness. Identify, document, and account for data gaps, inconsistencies, and other data anomalies.

1. Data Integration:

Collaborate with IT and partner data teams to securely extract and transfer necessary data into reporting environment. This involves thorough understanding of data formats, ETL processes, and ensuring the integrity of data during migration as well as compliance with data management standards, procedures, and data access policies.

1. Dynamic Report Building:

Utilize advanced data visualization and reporting tools to build accurate, dynamic, interactive, user-friendly, scalable, and actionable reports that will serve as the single source of truth of the non-financial risk data and information for the enterprise’s risk managers, executive leadership, and the Board.

1. Quality Control & Assurance:

Implement rigorous quality control checks on all newly developed and legacy reports by developing and running test scripts and verifying that reported data and information align with the systems of records as well as documented business and functional requirements.

1. Documentation & Process Transparency:

Meticulously document each step of the reporting process, from requirements gathering to final report delivery in accordance with ERM reporting standards and procedures. Ensure that all actions, decisions, and changes are well-documented in a manner that supports easy review, making the entire process auditable and transparent.

1. Adhering to Agile Process:

Actively participate in agile sprints, backlog refinement, and retrospectives. Collaborate closely with cross-functional agile teams to streamline reporting processes, provide feedback, and continuously iterate on reporting solutions.

Other responsibilities may include the following:

Reporting Enhancement: Offer innovative ideas to improve cohesiveness and efficiency in business segment of the reporting processes

Proactive Monitoring: Utilize advanced data and tech methodologies to improve risk programs monitoring, ensuring timely communication of budding risks and challenges

Documentation Development: Assist with creation and development of comprehensive documentation related to risk data, tooling, and automation, including charters, standards, and procedures

Risk Awareness: Champion the culture of risk awareness, accountability, and drive focus on risk throughout the company

ERM Strategy: Actively support and contribute to the vision, objectives, and requirements of the ERM risk data, tooling, and automation strategy. Foster robust relationships with partners including Risk Governance, Technology, and Frontline Risk Managers to ensure uniform implementation and compliance with risk reporting and risk data standards

Tool Rollout: Spearhead the selection and implementation of innovative BI development and analytics tools across ERM

Data-Driven Culture: Advocate for a data-centric approach within risk domain and support fostering a data-driven risk culture across the enterprise

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in Banking, financial or other directly related industry OR High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Banking, financial or other directly related industry

Preferred Area of Study: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, information management

Skill(s): Spreadsheet and database knowledge, Able to analyze and visualize large sets of data, Able to create and apply accurate algorithms to datasets to identify solutions, Knowledge of programming languages including but not limited to SQL, Oracle, R, MATLAB, Python, Proficiency in statistics and statistical packages/applications used to analyze data sets, Technical proficiency in Tableau and TeamMate

Additional Qualifications:

• Minimum of 8 years in designing and building automated dashboards/reports, preferably within large financial institutions
• Mastery in Tableau, PowerBI, and data query languages (T-SQL and Python)
• Proven skills in data analysis including data exploration and data wrangling
• Proven ability to identify trends in data and generate data-driven actionable insights
• Acquaintance with data management tools like Netezza, Collibra, and Denodo
• Comprehensive knowledge of cloud/on-prem database structures, including Data Mesh principles
• Familiarity with non-financial risk management key components and best practices
• Precision, attention to detail, and ability to work autonomously
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving acumen as well as experience in a matrixed setup
• Adept in clear communication, collaboration, and building relationships
• Familiarity with Lean Development/Sprints
