Wärtsilä’s Energy Business is looking for a Senior Lithium-Ion Battery specialist for the Energy Storage & Optimization business. The role will be part of the Architecture & Systems Engineering team.
 
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The candidate should thrive in a fast paced, constantly changing environment while the industry and company go through substantial growth.
 
Preferred location(s) for this position is Wärtsilä’s location in Herndon, VA or Houston, TX. You could also work remote, in the eastern or central time zones. Candidate must be able to travel to Wartsila office when required. 

 

Responsibilities:
•    Analyze and compare different battery cells and provide detailed analyses based on cell type, material, performance, design, and characteristic
•    Collaborate with other labs and research institutes regarding current design concepts, materials, and future products
•    Develop and maintain Battery Energy Storage System sizing tool
•    Lead the technical discuss and negotiation with different cell vendors 
•    Support designing and configuring the battery module and cell level BMS
•    Evaluate product and system designs and configurations for compliance to relevant industry standards
•    Develop test plans for battery cells and execute them in lab environment ensuring compliance to functional and QA requirements
•    Participate in field testing and commissioning activities by developing test plans and collaborating with the field engineering team to execute and troubleshoot as needed
•    Develop product documentation such as manuals, application notes, and technical specifications
•    Collaborate with the larger team to optimize requirement and needs 
•    Drive continues improvement 
•    Support marketing research and supply chain initiatives 
•    Collaborate in a team environment and/or take charge of opportunities to develop optimal solutions for customers and product development programs.
 
Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements
•    Master of Science degree required; PHD desired
•    5+ years of Lithium-Ion Battery experience focused on energy storage and/or EV application
•    Familiar with battery cell manufacturing
•    Experience analyzing and comparing different battery cell technologies
•    Knowledgeable on battery cell testing requirement and equipment
•    Able to represent the company in technical meetings with vendors, customers, and other government authorities
•    Strong understanding of Lithium-Ion battery industry and market requirement
•    Maintain positive working relationships with customers, peers, subordinates, vendors, shop, and office in a fast-paced environment.
•    Able to work with global team members and vendors in different time zones.
•    Familiar with simulation tools such as Matlab/Simulink
•    Flexible and willing to adapt and learn. 
•    Excellent communication skills
•    Speaking Mandarin is a plus.
•    Team player attitude internally and externally
•    Willing to travel up to 20% of the time.

For applicants that reside in NY, the salary/salary range/hourly wage range is $92,610 - $171,990. 

 

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Eligibility to participate in: the discretionary incentive plan assigned to the level of position upon offer of employment; medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) plan and flexible spending accounts, subject to plan terms; Company-paid benefits such as life insurance, short- and long-term disability, subject to applicable waiting periods. Paid time off (PTO) is accrued on a per-pay period basis in accordance with tenure in the Company; a new hire can expect 17 days per year. Twelve (12) Company-paid holidays.
