SPACE SYSTEMS
Rocket Lab's Space Systems team is responsible for every satellite and satellite component made by Rocket Lab: from complete satellites destined for missions to the Moon and Mars, to the individual components and subsystems that make up a satellite like solar panels, flight software, reaction wheels and star trackers, separation systems, radios, and more. Our Space Systems team is made up of engineers, technicians, and designers who design, create, and put together our own satellites for missions across the commercial, government, and defense sectors, or who build and assemble satellite hardware and software that supports other satellite missions.
SENIOR AVIONICS AUTOMATION TEST ENGINEER
Based out of Rocket Lab's global headquarters in Long Beach, the Senior Avionics Automation Test Engineeris responsible for the design, test, and integration of the electrical systems and electronics that form the backbone of our Space Systems missions. This role will involve software development and automation. You will support the Space Systems organization, with deliverables required for internal leadership, board of directors, and investors.
WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO:
- Support the development of an automated hardware testing framework in Python
- Develop software that interacts with test equipment and flight components
- Work with databases and report generation systems
- Collaborate with the hardware design engineers to develop efficient testing strategies for Acceptance and Qualification test programs
- Support the design and development of space flight hardware to increase the level of design for testability and manufacturability
- Contribute to the development of engineering and business processes, including engineering and test processes, to support Rocket Lab growth and capability
- Mentor junior engineers with best practices in areas such as test, design for manufacture, and engineering change
YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (software, computer, electrical, aerospace, or other technical engineering discipline)
- 5+ years of programming experience in Python
- Experience working with electrical test equipment, data acquisition systems, and instrumentation
- Experience using test requirements to create software test cases to validate hardware
- Experience with communication protocols, such as TCP/UDP and serial
THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:
- Master's or PhD in engineering (software, computer, electrical, aerospace, or other technical engineering discipline)
- Experience with docker containers and/or microservices
- Experience with software development on a Linux platform
- Experience with SCPI controlled test equipment
- Experience with CI/CD
The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
Base salary is only one part of Rocket Lab's compensation package for this role.
