Primary Duties and Responsibilities includes but not limited to:
- Prepares workpapers to support global income tax provisions and income tax returns
- Prepares workpapers for Country-by-Country reporting and GLOBe tax returns
- Prepares journal entries & reconciles tax accounts and deferred tax assets & liabilities
- Creates and maintains auditable workpapers and supporting documentation for income tax provisions, where applicable
- Provides income tax audit support
- Tracks taxable basis of Mohegan investments worldwide
- Tracks Mohegan intercompany positions that impact Global Tax results
- Prepares indirect tax returns and informational reporting returns enterprise wide
- Performs tax research and drafts internal tax memos on a wide range of topics, including international tax matters
- Maintains an understanding of Mohegan's Global Tax footprint and identifies potential tax issues as the business continues to evolve
- Develops and maintains a range of internal and external business relationships to assist in the completion of tasks and understanding changes to the business, including accounting, development, legal and finance
- Performs other related duties as directed by Tax leadership
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports the execution of internal operational improvement initiatives
- Monitors changes in Global Tax legislation and regulations, and communicates the necessary recommendations to management
- Assists in refining Global Tax operations for Mohegan
- Continues to build out Mohegan Global Tax Department policies, procedures and best practices
- Enforces the privacy rules pursuant to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
Minimum Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelors' Degree in Accounting or related field
- Three years of related tax experience at a large, global company and/or public accounting firm; hospitality, gaming or entertainment experience a plus
- Certified Public Accountant or a Masters' Degree in taxation preferred
- Ability to interpret tax code and principles across multiple jurisdictions
- Experience in direct and indirect taxation compliance and research
- Experience in accounting for income taxes under U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and / or International Financial Reporting Standards
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite
Competencies: Incumbent will master the following competencies while in this position:
- Foundational knowledge of global / cross-border taxation issues
- High level of familiarity with Mohegan's operations
- Effective utilization of Mohegan evaluation programs
- Thorough understanding of the Mohegan Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO) as it relates to employment
Training Requirements:
- Knowledge of Mohegan corporate and department policies and procedures
- Knowledge of financial software (Workday)
- Ongoing training on tax policies and practices (including meeting CPA continuing education requirements as applicable)
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Office work environment
- Must be able to work in a fast paced work environment with strict deadlines
- Must be able to sit in front of a computer screen for extended periods of time
- Travel may be required for meetings and/or conferences
- Must be able to work various shifts and flexible hours
