THIS POSITION The Senior Grants Accountant undertakes professional accounting and auditing work related to budget and grants, aligning with State and Federal financial reporting laws. Operating with limited supervision, they manage technical and complex accounting functions, necessitating technological competence, strong communication skills, and a high degree of initiative. The role involves handling federal, state, and local grants, reconciling grant reports, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements. Additionally, Senior Accountants collaborate with the Finance Director on budget planning, grant fund accounting, and audit-related responsibilities, including the OMB Circular A-133 Single Audit and the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). They play a central role in grant management, financial reporting, and audit preparation, demonstrating a commitment to accuracy and timeliness in their duties.

DO YOU QUALIFY?
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a closely related field, with a minimum of 20 semester hours of accounting.
- Do you have a minimum of five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience?
- Do you possess or have the ability to possess a Certified Government Finance Manager (CGFM), CPA or CIA Certificate?
- Do you have an in-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application in County government?
- Do you possess a high degree of technological competence, exceptional written and verbal interpersonal communication skills, and a high degree of initiative?
- Are you able to successfully pass a financial/credit background check?
- Do you possess or have the ability to obtain a valid driver's license and are you insurable?
YOU MAY BE THE RIGHT CANDIDATE IF:
- You have a detailed understanding of government accounting and budgeting laws, rules and regulations
- You have a track record of meeting regular inflexible deadlines and quickly adapt to interruptions, and able to work beyond standard hours as needed to ensure deadlines are met.
- You are able to communicate financial information to external and internal users
- You demonstrate understanding of sound financial and accounting internal controls and processes as well as the ability to troubleshoot complex accounting issues
- You have the demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
