SUMMARY:
The Senior Accountant has responsibility for recording monthly activity for the company operations in a timely and accurate manner; collaborating with other Accounting staff, Business Office, Financial Planning & Analysis and Student Accounting functional department leaders to maintain accurate financial statements; performing financial statement analysis; quality control, reconciling, reporting, cost savings initiatives, lease modifications, departmental budgets, providing reports and support for external financial reporting requirements; participating with and supporting the analysis of the budget and forecast; serve as back up to accounts payable and certain business office functions, and assisting with special projects as needed. Incumbent must assure that the Company philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position. This position can be hybrid or virtual.
KEY JOB ELEMENTS:
1. Perform monthly, quarterly, and yearly closings that conform to GAAP, including recording all assigned journal entries to the general ledger in a timely and accurate manner, and perform thorough ledger reviews at the transactional, account, and statement levels.
2. Reconcile accounts monthly, research discrepancy and proposing corrections as needed, reporting material findings to supervisors.
3. Work with other accounting staff and functional departments to ensure that transactional activity is coded accurately and financial reporting integrity is maintained.
4. Analyze campus financial statements monthly and develop variance explanations for distribution to management.
5. Maintain and build month-end reporting for review of financial actuals versus plan and forecasts.
6. Develop and maintain Quality Control measures.
7. Vendor projects as assigned (cost reduction project).
8. Capital investment and fixed asset tracking, inventory, and reporting – adjustments for actuals and changes.
9. Restricted funds and donations tracking, reconciliation, and reporting
10. Assist with required filings state annual reports, business license, sales tax, property tax, IRS, state registrations and licenses, bonds. Includes leading the 1099 and 990 filing process.
11. Lead support for lease administration,
12. Business office support as needed to include risk management (e.g. claims, COI), accounts payable, and treasury functions.
13. Assist with budget preparation process as assigned.
14. Prepare campus financial audit schedules and resolve auditor questions.
15. Initiate and assist with special projects, particular those involving advanced spreadsheet skills.
16. Work well independently and with little supervision.
17. Assist with special projects as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree, Accounting or related field preferred.
  • 8+ years of related experience, progressive experience preferred.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and business office processes.
  • Experience with computer-based accounting system and Microsoft, Advanced Excel
  • Experience in a higher education environment preferred.
  • Detailed and accurate.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with student and staff populations.
  • Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivation skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as alongside members of a team
