Internal Auditor, Senior

Position Information

This position is located in the Cobb County Internal Audit Department.
Hybrid work environment available.

Essential Functions

Plans and conducts audit of assigned organizational and functional activities in accordance with professional auditing standards as published by the Institute of Internal Auditors (Red Book).
Plans, conducts, and reports on the operational, financial, and programmatic activities of County operations.
Plans, conducts, and reports on the overall effectiveness and efficiency of County operations, programs, and activities.
Plans, conducts, and reports on the County's compliance with existing ordinances, policies, regulations, and state and federal laws.
Develops comprehensive audit programs for assigned areas of audit, in conformance with applicable audit standards as well as department audit plans, budgets and schedules.
Serves as lead to provide guidance and direction to less experienced professional auditors, as needed.
Documents complete audit work papers and analyses in conformance with audit program guidelines and professional auditing standards.
Performs consulting services of County operations.
Makes oral or written presentations identifying areas of improvement or non-compliance and recommends corrective action to strengthen controls, enhance operations, improve operational effectiveness and efficiency, reduce costs, and/or ensure compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
Maintains current knowledge of industry standards, related information pertaining to governmental operations and internal audit.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field required; supplemented by five years of progressively responsible audit experience or seven years of experience in accounting, finance or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Experience in the public sector environment is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP) designation.
• TeamMate or other audit software experience.
• Internal auditing experience.
• Government industry knowledge.

Physical Abilities

Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors
Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
