Marcum Search is assisting our client in their search for a Senior Staff Accountant in New Jersey.
Summary
As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for supporting the accounting team in preparing monthly journal entries and account reconciliations as well as performing financial analysis and various internal control procedures as required to support the accounting and internal control framework process.
Responsibilities
- Senior Accountant will execute and support all accounting-related activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement analysis of the period-end close
- This position will also manage and support accounting and reporting initiatives, proactively working with stakeholders across the organization to address accounting matters, identify risk areas, and make well-researched recommendations for improvements
- Execute and support the period-end financial close process, including recording journal entries, coordinating expense accruals with business partners across the organization, and performing financial analysis of Balance Sheet and Income Statement accounts
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations within the established deadlines, researching, supporting and decisioning reconciling items in accordance with company policy
- Assist in resolving accounting matters and provide insight and analysis to assist business partner’s understanding of accounting activities
- Provide insight and implement process improvements, including automation of certain close functions and template standardization
- Perform various operational tasks, such as cash findings and settlement of intercompany receivables and payables
- Assist with SOX compliance for all corporate accounting processes, including maintenance of SOX process documentation
- Develop remediation plans for ineffective controls
- Perform various ad-hoc analyses, as needed
- Other responsibilities may be assigned as necessary
Required:
- BS degree in Accounting; Master’s and/or CPA preferred but not required.
- Must have three to six years of work experience in an accounting department and/or public accounting
- Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Proven ability to automate processes
- Attention to detail and accuracy and exceptional problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and oral skills that will allow for effective communication among internal stakeholders
- Ability to interact effectively with staff and management across the organization through different communication mediums
- Ability to handle hard deadlines and willing to work additional hours when necessary.
- Strong strategic analytical skills, detail oriented and accurate
- Good understanding of accounting concepts and the working of the Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow statements.
