General Position Summary
CBE is seeking a current or former CBE member or individual with community organizing experience for the SELA Youth Organizing (YO) Intern position. This position will be both in-person and remote from January 29, 2024, to December 15, 2024. The SELA YO Intern will support the Youth Organizers to implement CBE's organizing strategies to address current environmental justice campaigns. The intern will help lead and support weekly Youth EJ core meetings and will support ongoing organizing efforts. In addition, the intern will provide support with day-to-day activities such as database upkeep, phone banking, social media, and communication with community leaders.
Qualifications:
Personal experience in an environmental justice community and commitment to social justice
Experience with community organizing and campaign work
Ability to work in a manner that complies with organizational standards and policies
Believes in advancing social, economic, and environmental justice principles
Experience assisting with organizing workshops and meetings and preparing materials such as agenda, curricula, or event programming
Ability to provide event and meeting reporting to Youth Program SELA Youth Organizers
Must have strong people skills, be youth- and community-friendly, and be able to engage a broad spectrum of people representing various social, cultural, and professional backgrounds
Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
Skills in, or openness to learning about, computer and social media
Must be a self-starter and able to work independently
Attention to detail, organization, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
Commitment to upholding high levels of accountability for self and for others
Demonstrated ability to be creative, flexible, and well-organized
Ability to foster a team-oriented environment and ensure a consensus decision-making process
Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity and integrity
Compensation:
This is a temporary position with an expected start date of January 29, 2024, and an expected end date of December 15, 2024. Pay is $21/hour, with an expected work week of 10 hours to be completed in-person and remote. Due to the temporary part-time nature of this position, we are unable to offer most benefits; however, the position does include a therapy/mental health benefit, as well as a limited amount of paid sick leave.
