Job Description
Founded in 1838, The Pennington School is an independent, coeducational school serving day and boarding students in grades 6 through 12. Total student enrollment is approximately 535, of which 25% are boarding students.
We are seeking a Security & Safety Officer to work closely with the Lead Security & Safety Officer and Associate Head of School to support security and safety operations at our campus. The Security & Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring our students and employees' safety and well-being and compliance with the laws and regulations applicable to The Pennington School.
Essential Duties:
- Performs crosswalk duties on a daily basis during afternoon pickup
- Greets all visitors as they arrive on campus and direct them to their required destination
- Makes rounds of the campus buildings conducting building system and security checks utilizing an established checklist and pre-established procedures
- Walks the campus, makes rounds providing a security presence on the grounds, athletic fields, parking lots and buildings, perform foot patrol duties and document patrol activities on a daily basis, noting security concerns
- Checks activities in the buildings utilized by outside organization/groups and other functions by the community that might have outside guests
- For situations involving outside campus community, contacts the local police department or other authorities as needed for assistance
- Opens and closes buildings/facilities per hours of operations as directed
- Fosters positive working relationships with all departments and students on campus
- Communicates and coordinates information with prior/succeeding shift personnel to pass on pertinent information
- Works closely with the Director of Summer and Auxilliary Programs to ensure campus security and safety guidelines are in place
- Assists with preparing ID badges and visitor requests
- Works with local Police/Fire and EMS and other agencies as required
- Other duties as needed.
Essential Requriements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Five years of experience in Law Enforcement, Emergency Response, Military or security-related experience is required
- Ability to adjust to new security techniques and become familiar with new equipment as required
- Must be able to communicate with constituents and colleagues effectively
- The ability to maintain confidentiality
- Eager to be a member of a collaborative, trust-based team
- Personal qualities including resilience, approachability, and kindness
- Must be available for overtime/on-call hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Flexibility to assist in other areas of the department as needed
