We are currently seeking a full-time, on-site,Security Officerin our University Police Department (UPD). This position assists in enforcing campus security.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform foot/vehicle patrols to perform security checks of campus.
- Provide medical assist on calls for service.
- Enforce parking regulations and issue tickets for violations.
- Assist with blocking or parking lots and roadways for special events, assist with crowd and traffic control, and provide personal services including escorts, vehicle unlocks and jump starts.
- Perform general desk duties including but not limited to dispatching, issuing parking permits, preparing reports.
- Administer first aid, CPR and AED in response to emergency situations.
- Search law enforcement systems (IDACS/NCIC) to obtain information and query databases.
- Instruct AED/CPR and first aid to university staff as needed.
- Maintain records and certifications for employees of police department.
- Maintain first aid supplies in police vehicles. Visually inspect and maintain all AEDs on campus, and record the inspections.
- Maintain and keep records of all campus fire extinguishers (over 650 extinguishers).
- Perform monthly fire extinguisher inspections and assist with the annual inspection of the fire alarm system.
- Inspect post indicator valves (PIVs) and inspect the dry standpipes routinely.
Required Qualifications:
- A High School diploma or GED.
- American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certification.
- IDACS/NCIC certification.
- Must be or able to become knowledgeable in the operation of fire system and extinguisher testing systems.
- Effective verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to learn all parking regulations, spend ample time on feet while enforcing parking during all weather conditions, and take enforcement actions where necessary.
- The ability to organize and track data required for monthly checks of fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, and AEDs, as well as annual inspections of fire systems, and safety showers.
- This position requires a valid driver's license and be able to successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
- Knowledge of emergency light testing regulations and procedures.
