Security Officer (Full-Time)

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THECLASS:

Maintains watch over buildings and property. Employees in this class are responsible for valuable property and supplies, both when employees are working and at times when employees are not present. Employees in this class must be honest, reliable and conscientious.

A Building Attendant also does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

• Makes rounds of premises at regular intervals;
• Checks all windows, doors, entrances to building to make certain that they are all closed;
• Prevents admittance to the premises of unauthorized persons;
• Investigates unusual conditions or disturbances;
• Prevents damage to property;
• Checks conditions of fire hazards;
• Provides assistance to public in locating county offices;
• Checks on air condition and heating systems.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONALCHARACTERISTICS :

• General knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of a watchman;
• Ability to professionally meet the public;
• Ability to make minor emergency repairs to plumbing, lighting and heating systems;
• Ability to think and act quickly in emergencies and write accurate reports of incidents;
• Willingness to work nights or on unusual shifts;
• Integrity;

• Good vision and hearing;
• Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Some experience as a laborer or watchman and completion of a standard grade school course.

NYS security license preferred
