Security Officer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary

The Security Officer maintains a safe and secure environment for the Shade Tree’s residents, employees, volunteers, vendors, and all other visitors. This position requires patrolling and monitoring the premises and all personnel and visitors. The Security Officer serves as the “eyes and ears” of the Shade Tree through watchful observation and reporting in support of our overall mission of providing safe shelter to homeless and abused women and children in crisis. Pre-employment FBI background report, drug screening and NV State CANs check required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Patrols the property, monitors surveillance equipment, and inspects buildings, equipment and access points.
• Monitors and facilitates visitor sign in and out which includes verifying identity and permission to access facilities.
• Conducts hourly sporadic property patrols and documents any issues, conversations or observances in detail on log.
• Controls vehicle entrance and monitors and permits entry of visitors by vehicle and on foot and provides direction as needed.
• Uses telephone and radio communication to assist in verifying activity and maintaining security.
• Follows procedures for key control and monitors access.
• Provides detailed and thorough communications to Security Officer(s) at the beginning and ending of shifts.
• Completes incident reports and daily activity reports by recording observations, information, occurrences and surveillance activities. Interviews witnesses, records witness statements, and obtains signatures as necessary. Supplements reports with photo, audio and video footage as needed.
• Performs crowd control to maintain order and enforce rules, regulations, and laws as applicable.
• Serves as the liaison with first responders by sounding life safety alarms, summoning emergency and law enforcement assistance when needed, and communicating in detail about situations with first responders.
• Exercises authority and de-escalation techniques to diffuse and handle volatile (or potentially volatile) situations.
• Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policies and procedures, and restraining trespassers.
• Provides assistance as needed in the receipt of donations (by providing receipts and receiving and storing items).
• Maintains environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls.
• Adheres to and enforces all agency policies and procedures. Complies with all local, state and federal regulations.
• Reacts quickly and professionally to any requests for Security intervention. Serves as a professional and diplomatic ambassador of the Shade Tree. Maintains a positive and productive attitude at all times with residents, staff members, volunteers, donors, board members, vendors, and all other visitors.
• Maintains a positive work relationship with all other department and organizational personnel, while promoting the team concept in the workplace environment.
• Maintains issued uniform in good condition and reports to work in authorized uniform in compliance with departmental and organizational appearance standards.
• Follows all employer safety and health rules.
• Wears and/or uses personal protective equipment, when and how instructed.
• Performs other duties as requested.

Education, Training & Experience Requirements

• Employment is contingent upon (1) a satisfactory FBI background report, (2) the passage of a pre-employment drug screening, and (3) a clear Nevada Child Abuse and Neglect Screening (CANS).
• Must possess, or quickly attain, a current Nevada Private Investigators Licensing Board (PILB) work card.
• Must have a current Nevada driver license and provide a DMV printout to document a clean driving record.
• Must have prior security experience, with large population and commercial building experience strongly preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CPR/AED, handcuffing, and defense tactic training preferred.

• Ability to take inventory and keep records of keys, vehicles and visitors to property.
• Constant mental alertness and attention to detail.
• Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $17.50 per hour

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Day shift
• Evening shift
• Weekends as needed

• North Las Vegas, NV 89030: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

• Security: 1 year (Required)
• CPR: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

• Driver's License (Required)
