Performs a variety of duties to provide assistance and information to all patients, visitors and staff. Enforce WVUH policies and procedures to provide a safe, secure environment, in support of the WVUH Security Program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. High School diploma or equivalent AND 3 years of experience in the security field
OR Associate's degree in criminal justice, criminology, forensics, law or related field of study AND 1 year experience
OR Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, criminology, forensics, law or related field of study AND 6 months experience in the security field.
2. Must be 21 years of age or older.
3. Maintain TASER user certification within one year.
4. Valid Driver's License is required and must be maintained during employment period.
5. Satisfactorily completion of the training requirements for an armed Security Officer is required.
6. Meet all ACT 235 training certification requirements including satisfactory completion of Psychological evaluation, Physical and course work within 60 days of hire. ACT 235 certification must be maintained during employment period.
7. Satisfactory completion of all departmental Lethal Weapon Training and course work required within one (1) year of hire.
8. Obtain certification in HeartSaver First Aid within 60 days of hire date.
9. Successfully pass WV DHHR Protected Services Record Check and WV CARES fingerprint-based criminal background check.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Initiates positive customer service interaction and provides appropriate assistance to hospital patients, visitors and staff to facilitate orderly and efficient access to WVUH facilities in accordance with WVUH and departmental policies and procedures.
2. Maintains consistent visibility and presence at assigned locations to provide an information and directional resource for all patients, visitors and staff distributing accurate information to all who request such 100% of the time.
3. Responds to all patient, visitor and staff requests for information/assistance in a caring, courteous manner, 100% of the time.
4. Provides physical assistance, wheelchair assistance, transport services, escort services and room access patients, visitors and staff accessing WVUH facilities.
5. Monitors and maintains traffic flow in WVUH parking areas and roadways by assisting disabled vehicles, issuing parking permits and warning violations.
6. Protects people and property by assisting in the prevention of accidents, theft and vandalism, in accordance with WVUH and department policies and procedures, as monitored by supervision.
7. Responds to unusual or emergency situations using the appropriate escalation of force level up to and including armed response by following established protocol.
8. Maintains consistent presence and visibility by performing routine building rounds, building door unlocks, exterior building and parking lot patrol.
9. Makes recommendations to management, staff, visitors and patients to improve security and prevent accidents and crime.
10. Reports suspicious situations, circumstances, incidents and persons, according to WVUH and department policy and procedures.
11. Responds and provides assistance to patients, visitors and staff during fire and disaster drills, animal control issues, transportation of valuables, and lost/found issues, according to WVUH and department policy and procedures.
12. Provides written documentation of activities, incidents, premises safety, accidents, theft, vandalism and other data requested by supervision in a factual, objective and legible manner.
13. Responds to and provides assistance to patients, visitors and staff during emergency situations such as; assaults, domestic disputes, fire, vandalism, bomb threats, theft, vehicle accidents, disasters, etc.
14. Performs patient restraint as directed by clinical staff, and is capable of physical intervention when appropriate.
15. Operates Hospital-owned vehicles in a safe and responsible manner, 100% of the time.
16. Ensures safety and proper operating condition of vehicles by performing vehicle inspections, as outlined by departmental policy.
17. Other requirements: Incident reporting, routine building rounds, incident investigation, crowd control, restraining patients, disaster response, domestic disputes, med G assists, parking enforcement, consistent presence and visibility, helicopter assignments, media issues, victim assistance, engages in traffic direction, policy enforcement, investigation of alarms, duress, etc., physical intervention, tire changing, battery jumps, parking rounds, effective radio communication, escorts patients/visitors/staff, accurate directions to customers, loss prevention, vehicle assists, transport equipment/staff/visitors/patients, posts assignments for exterior patrol/all canopy/all booths/building rounds/ED, STOPS training, Completion of required book sections 1-7 & sections 1-5 health & safety, custody issues, Course work (customer service), and responses to all alarms (fire, halo, duress, all codes).
