Job Description
The Security and Safety manager directs all aspects of the Frick’s Gallery Attendants, Public Safety Officers, and the current agency guards (outside contractor) to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff and visitors at the Frick Pittsburgh. The Security and Safety Manager must exhibit leadership skills with a goal to foster an environment where employees, visitors, property and collections are safe and well-protected.

Reports to: Director of Enterprise, Security & Visitor Services
Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; hours may vary from time to time. Some weekend, on call and evening work required
Status: Full-time, exempt with benefits
Salary Range: $55,231-$67,134, based on experience
Responsibilities:
Schedules and trains all safety staff: 35%
- Properly demonstrates customer centric behavior.
- Adheres to the Frick security policies and procedures.
- Schedules, assigns, manages, and supervises security personnel to ensure adequate coverage.
- Provides training for all established posts and duties.
- Completes performance evaluations for Safety Officers and Gallery Attendants.
- Provides effective on-the-spot coaching to guards regarding performance.
- Performs rounds and monitoring of the site utilizing the currently provided security software.
- Interacts politely with the staff and visitors.
Security/Safety Management: 45%
- Monitor and respond to incidents concerning damage or safety concerns to person or property.
- Updates fire and entry alarm systems and assists in performing annual fire extinguisher inspections.
- Works closely with the Director of Enterprise, Security and Visitor Services to establish site-wide safety policies and procedures and ensure all safety personnel comply.
- Manages badge card system, key inventory, radio inventory, and security phone management.
- Conducts safety department audits as required by Director of Enterprise, Security & Visitor Services
- Monitors and adjusts Site lighting through the Lutron system.
- Maintains knowledge of alarms pertaining to all entry/exit from buildings on site using the currently provided security software. i.e., ESG, C-Cure, Open Systems, and monitor panic buttons.
- Is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all security systems for the museum. This includes but is not limited to:
- All alarms, fire panels, panic buttons, control room monitoring equipment and various devices for security coverage throughout the building, on the museum property or satellite locations used by the museum.
- Oversees any routine work done to these systems and the installation of new equipment. Keeps records of all work done to these systems and recommends changes to them, as necessary.
- Must conduct drills or testing of above-mentioned equipment at least every other month or as required by regulatory agencies or workers comp insurance carriers.
- Builds and maintains relationships with senior management, and other museum leaders to develop a keen understanding of security needs; ensure consistent and balanced delivery of security services to meet those needs and respond with agility to changing institution priorities.
- Assumes responsibility for people management of the Safety and Security team, including employee efficiency, morale, individual development plans, coaching, feedback, prioritization/utilization, team motivation, training, hiring, retaining, and leading a quality team to deliver on objective.
- Works evenings and weekends based on operational necessity and is on-call during non-business hours.
Administrative Duties: 20% With the Director of Enterprise, Security and Visitor Services, prepares annual budget, continually monitors and tracks expenditures.
- Attend project/project meeting with other managers to determine operational needs.
- Prepares and updates the site-Emergency Operations plan with the Director of Operations and Director of Enterprise, Security and Visitor Services.
- Conducts monthly site-wide safety committee meetings. Responsible for agenda and meeting setup.
- Maintains required safety committee certification.
- Maintains safety operational standards to current accepted museum standards.
- Reviews daily site reports and maintains proper security records and incidents including response to emergency first aid situations, lost/found property, art damage, etc.
- Ensures that adequate staff is always scheduled and on hand in daily and special event situations, with built-in break time for staff.
- Schedules additional staffing and/or services through 3rd Party Partners (Currently St. Moritz Security, Pittsburgh Police and Pittsburgh Paramedics).
- Serves as the liaison for Pittsburgh Police and Paramedics for events as scheduled.
- Is timely in processing invoices for approval and submission to Finance.
- Procures Safety and Security uniforms.
- Approves bi-weekly Safety and Security payroll.
- Handles other related duties as required by management.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 4-5 years of management experience in safety/security required
- Related bachelor’s degree or equivalent additional experience
- Ability to think and work strategically and quickly
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to deal effectively with both donors and staff
- Proficiency with technology including Windows Office Suite - a history of working with security software is a plus
- Physical ability to perform all required functions, to lift up to 50 pounds, and to access all campus locations.
- Ability to handle a variety of responsibilities under pressure
- Clearance of a criminal background check and Act 33/34 clearances
