Job description

Position Overview: As a Secondary Social Studies Teacher covering grades 6-12 in the Florence Unified School District, you will guide students on a compelling journey through history exploring its foundations, growth, challenges, and contributions. You will also play a pivotal role in helping students understand the complexities of economic systems, government structures, and their impact on society. Your responsibilities will include designing interactive lessons, fostering critical thinking, and equipping students with the knowledge and skills to be informed and engaged citizens. Your role contributes to the overarching mission of delivering exceptional education by cultivating students' historical awareness, civic awareness, economic literacy, and analytical skills.
 
Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum and Instruction:

 
  • Successful Implementation of the curriculum and state standards according to the specific course and grade level of the students
2. Inquiry:
  • Encourage students to think critically, analyze primary and secondary sources, and draw connections between historical events and current societal dynamics.
3.  Civic Engagement:
  • Teach students about the structure of government, democratic principles, and the importance of active citizenship.
4   Economic Literacy:
  • Introduce students to economic systems, principles of supply and demand, personal finance, and global economic issues.
5. Interactive Learning:
  • Create engaging lessons that encourage students to explore real-world scenarios, debate current events, and analyze political and economic decisions.
6. Critical Thinking:
  • Guide students in critically analyzing government policies, economic trends, and their impact on individuals and society.
7. Interactive Learning:
  • Create engaging lessons that bring history to life through discussions, debates, simulations, and multimedia resources.
8. Differentiated Instruction:
  • Recognize diverse learning needs within the classroom, adapting instruction to cater to varying student abilities and learning styles.
9. Technology Integration:
  • Integrate technology tools and digital resources to enhance learning experiences, research, and content analysis.
10. Assessments and Feedback:
  • Design assessments that evaluate students' understanding of key concepts, critical analysis, and written communication skills.
  • Provide constructive feedback to guide students' growth.
11. Parent Communication:
  • Maintain open communication with parents and guardians, sharing insights into students' progress and achievements in the course.
12. Professional Development:
  • Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay informed about  education trends, teaching strategies and curriculum enhancements in the content area.
13. Inclusive Learning Environment:
  • Creates a classroom environment that is not only safe but also inclusive, nurturing, and conducive to both individualized and small group instruction, thereby fostering a sense of belonging where every student can flourish.
14. Additional Duties:
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. It is essential to note that the above description is illustrative and not exhaustive.

Education and/or Experience:            
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in the core area content
  • Master's Degree (M.A.) in Education or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum of three (3) years previous teaching experience or school experience in teaching (preferred)
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card
  • Valid Arizona Teaching certificate
 
Working Environment:
  • The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands; the employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • May be required to travel to various school district buildings and attend professional meetings as needed, actively participating in the collective efforts to empower the community.
 
Terms of Employment:
  •  Salary commensurate with education and experience as outlined on approved certified salary schedule for new hires,
  •  188 day new teacher contract - per work calendar for this position.
  •  186 returning teacher contract - per the work calendar for this position.
 
Clearances:
  • Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination
  • Valid I-9 form
 
Evaluation:
  • Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the site administration in accordance with Governing Board Policy.
