Job Title: Secondary Instructional Coach
Reports To: Executive Director of Academic Services 
Location: Mascoutah High School
FLSA Status: Exempt
Work Days: 193 days (183 plus 10 additional days)
Salary: 
Determined by graduate degrees/hours and level of experience.
FY 25 Teacher Salary Schedule

Salary Schedule for 2024-2025 SY: Step 1 Salary Range: $43,750 - $52,750 (Bachelors - Masters+45) for a 183 day contract plus 10 additional days to be paid at a per diem rate.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Academic Services, the Instructional Coach will work as a colleague with teachers to support student and educator growth.  Regularly, the coach will assist teachers and administrators by providing support and teacher leadership in the areas of data analysis, PLC's, best instructional practices and school improvement.  The coach will work closely with teachers to collaboratively design instruction, curriculum, and assessments that focus on achieving student outcomes. The coach will have a laser focus, in all content areas, on learning, results and collaboration working alongside teachers using student-centered coaching; and, closely with building administration to provide leadership with the school improvement plan.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 
  • Master's degree in educational discipline preferred
  • Teaching Certification in a Secondary Subject
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Extensive successful teaching experience, preferably in more than one subject area and grade level preferred (5 year minimum classroom teaching in public education).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following.  Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks.  Other duties may be assigned.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and models such for all members of the learning community.

  • Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers.  

  • Create and model positive relationships with teachers and administrators.

  • Communicate and demonstrate research-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance and improved classroom environment.  

  • Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.  

  • Encourage professional growth and provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers in all subject areas 6-12 with a focus on literacy.  

  • Assist teachers with making instructional decisions based on assessment data and culturally responsive practices.  

  • Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum.

  • Instruct and support teachers with curriculum and assessment software products, and classroom/curriculum related technologies.  

  • Provide support in analyzing student assessment data for teachers, teacher teams, and administration.  

  • Support, implement and assess various instructional programs and program effects on student achievement.  

  • Participates in goal/plan setting and school improvement evaluation.

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter. 

  • Assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.  

  • Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies. 

  • Monitor intervention programs and student progress by observing and meeting with teachers.  

  • Participates in building action planning working toward school goals; this includes leading and coordinating facets of the school improvement plan at each secondary school.  

  • Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.

  • Model lessons when appropriate.  

  • Engages in the student-centered coaching model and all of its components.

  • Manage time and schedule flexibility that maximizes teacher schedules and learning.  

  • Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals.   

  • Support teachers with the implementation of district curriculum through co-planning, co-teaching and lesson modeling.

  • Provide and attend workshops/conferences to learn about new innovative instructional strategies (which may occur outside of the contractual day and outside of the district, county and state). 

  • Support the implementation of new curriculum.

  • Support the development and continuous implementation of the secondary literacy plan.

  • Lead, model and provide feedback and support for the reading and writing workshops as part of a balanced literacy program.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES 
-  Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Executive Director of Academic Services, or the Curriculum Coordinator, and other central office administrators, as designated by the Superintendent.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES

 

Knowledge of instructional principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students.

 
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.

  • Knowledge of best instructional practices. 

  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.

  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.

  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.

  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships with others within the educational setting.
