Position Summary
The Compounding Lead - is responsible for overseeing that all batches are processed as scheduled, according to formula procedures and cGMP standards.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
- Assist Compounding Support Manager in directing the activities of Compounders and Platform Sanitizers.
- Assists Compounding Support Manager in ensuring cGMP and proper safety procedures are followed during operations hours.
- Performs all Compounder duties and responsibilities (see Compounder job descriptions).
- Develops, directs, and manages Compounding personnel and trains them to properly utilize all equipment and tools in all areas of platform.
- Leads by example in following SOPs and established cGMP practices to manufacture cosmetics or OTC batches utilizing the various compounding tanks, kettles, transfer pumps, mixers.
- Actively points out discrepancies in procedures to ensure practices match the documented task.
- Ensures housekeeping functions of the Compounding department are followed.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area to facilitate compounding functions by following cGMP and SOP guidelines.
- Ensures that equipment and facilities are in good condition, submits work orders for corrective action when required.
- Ensures that all SOPs applicable/relating to Compounding are current and that all staff are trained in their use.
- Investigates in-process, product and equipment failures and writes reports when required.
- Provides coaching and recognition/correction to team members. Documents performance of team members in a timely manner.
Technical Skills Required

- Ability to learn how to use the different pieces of equipment used to perform the compounding and platform sanitizing activities.

Experience Required
- High School Degree.
- Minimum 2 years chemical mixing/compounding experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good communication and employee relations skills necessary.
- Leadership experience.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Requires some walking and standing for long periods of time.
- Must be able to bend, squat, kneel, balance, and stretch.
- Good eye/hand coordination.
- Able to ascend and descend ladders and/or stairs.
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, loud noises, and vibration.
- Employee is subject to other hazards such as moving mechanical parts, electrical current,chemicals, and heat.
- Able to see color.
- Able to use GMP required garments and safety equipment as required by SOPs and GMPs.
