Under general supervision, performs responsible administrative and supervisory work in directing one or more major function of the County Auditor's Office.
Illustrative Examples of Work
- Supervises and participates in various activities of the Election and/or Administrative Division(s) of the County Auditor's Office.
- Directs the posting, billing and checking of accounts; maintains files and records; participates in the preparation of payroll; supervises, trains and evaluates staff.
- Directs employees in various election activities, including voting machine servicing and placement, maintenance of voter registration records, ballot preparation, general office duties and others.
- Audits and prepares warrants for the payment of County bills; classifies claims and warrants according to fund; maintains purchase order control on merchandise ordered by the County.
- Confers with attorneys, election candidates and the general public as needed.
- Receives and accounts for monies for dog tax, transfer fees and miscellaneous fees; prepares billings; requisitions supplies and printing.
- Supervises and participates in the control of subsidiary accounts covering all County transactions and the preparation of reports of all County funds expenditures.
- Computes the valuation and tax report for submission to the State Tax Commission; prepares applications for permits; keeps record of bond issues and worker compensation claims.
- Prepares various correspondence, records, legal publication and reports.
- Performs related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of governmental accounting.
- Good knowledge of office procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of State laws relating to the operation of the office.
- Proven ability to supervise and direct the work of others.
- Ability to keep general ledgers and set up and maintain subsidiary accounts and ledgers.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports and statements.
- Ability to read, interpret and apply laws, rules and regulations to specific work situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, officials and the general public.
Training and Experience
- Graduation from high school, and
- Additional specialized business training, and
- One to two years of experience in related supervisory office work, or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience that will have provided the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- A criminal background check is required.
- A drug screen is required prior to final offer of employment.
- A valid State of Iowa driver's license is required.
