Under direction, performs a variety of functions relating to day-to-day activities of the golf course operations, including working in the golf shop, cart barn, practice facilities and inside/outside guest services. Assists with golf instruction, including both private and group classes for juniors and adults.

Helps coordinate and plan all golf operations activities with management team and assume duties of management during its absence. Oversees day-to-day golf operations according to golf course policies and procedures.

Required to open and securely close the golf shop, cart barn, and practice facility as needed.

Offers high level of customer service in all areas of facility, interacting with customers personally as well as taking reservations and questions via telephone.

Assists with staff scheduling, specifically outside service staff. Trains and supervises staff as necessary.

Uses computerized point of sale system to complete cash/credit/check sales on a daily basis. Performs daily general ledger reporting and cash deposits, tracks and reports daily revenues, and maintains accurate and secure cash controls.

Assists with the merchandising operations, including creating effective visual displays, tracking sales, checking monthly inventory levels, and loss prevention.

Maintains thorough understanding of tournaments programs, pricing, and availability.


Assists with league operations, such as setup, management, and posting results.

Responsible for maintaining a clean and appealing work environment, routinely vacuuming and dusting the golf shop, overseeing cleanliness of the cart barn, practice facility, and perimeter of clubhouse facility.

Assists with golf instruction, including both private and group classes for juniors and adults.

May be required to assist in certain aspects of the food & beverage operation, such as light bartending, bussing, or food delivery when needed.

Drives a golf cart or other utility vehicle as necessary.

May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays with the possibility of overtime.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; one year of previous customer service experience dealing with the public. Experience in golf shop operations, including merchandise pricing. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Registered apprentice with the PGA of America preferred. City of Thornton liquor training must be obtained at the first available opportunity.

May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department.
Knowledge of Thorncreek Golf Course Rules and Regulations.
Knowledge of the game and rules of golf, and golf merchandise.
Skill in dealing tactfully and effectively with the public.
Skill in organizing and managing multiple competing tasks.
Skill in written and oral communication.
Skill in the safe and lawful operation of a golf cart or other required equipment.
Ability to work well and communicate effectively with the public and others.
Ability to provide excellent customer service to the public and others.
Ability to tactfully and consistently advise players of rules and regulations, and golf etiquette.
Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the functions of the position, including multi-line telephones, PA system, tee scheduling software, cash register, personal computers, facsimile, and photocopiers.
Ability to handle money accurately, conscientiously and honestly.
Ability to work in a high-usage, fast-paced environment.
Ability to listen well, and understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
Ability to understand and apply policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city employees and the general public.
Ability to resolve problems in a mature, effective, and responsible manner.
Ability to work overtime when necessary.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, or flexible schedules.
Physical and Mental Requirements:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and make repetitive motions. This position is mostly light work; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The employee is required to have close visual acuity. The employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat, and noise.
