POSITION DESCRIPTION

Seasonal Ditch Rider/ Laborer primarily monitors, checks and verifies irrigation water delivery to the agriculture on/within the exterior boundaries of the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Reservation, upon Tribal lands and properties. Shall be responsible for assisting TCID Ditch Riders alongside as necessary to provide direct support and service to Tribal irrigators; measure water flow in canals and laterals serving Tribal lands, Tribal properties and Tribal acquired properties including opening and closing water control structures and be willing to work day or night and at times be "on-call".

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Represents the Tribe in communicating with Tribal water users with all aspects of irrigation water delivery operations

2. Use skill to understand water flow measuring devices, to collect water flow data and information and to

report data and information

3. Complete computer generated reports from data collection and certain data analysis

4. Assure water deliveries to Tribal irrigators according to TCID water delivery scheduling

5. Assist with controlling the diversion, release and shutoff of water flows in canals and laterals on the FPST Reservation and at locations off of the FPST Reservation for Tribal properties and Tribal acquired properties

6. Investigate unauthorized use of water and report to the Natural Resources Director with findings

and recommendations

7. Maintain a high degree of ethic morals and professionalism with all levels and aspects of Tribal irrigation operations

8. Identify maintenance requirements and report maintenance needs to the Natural Resources

Director and recommend the scope of maintenance or repair, and use independent judgement to correct problems where on-site repairs can be performed

9. Monitor releases to adequately service Tribal water users along canal and lateral delivery system,

including general maintenance requirements, flow and readings

10. Use independent judgment to understand and apply necessary water conservation techniques and practices as appropriate for efficient performance of Tribal irrigation water delivery systems

11. Monitor for emergency conditions and perform sufficient response, including notifying Tribal officials, governmental agencies, and TCID in the event of an emergency

12. Understand and implement all rules, regulations, policies, and requirements relating to all Tribal water

delivery operations and systems

13. Responsible for the safe, orderly functions, operations of Tribal vehicles and equipment in the performance of duties and responsibilities

14. Other job related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

1. Basic computer skills

2. Ten (10) hour OSHA training desired, but not required

3. Vehicle and heavy equipment operations in tight quarters along canal and lateral banks during all hours of the day

4. Volumetric conditions for canals, laterals, check structures, head gates and drainage pipes

5. Time versus flow volumes for effective application to irrigated field areas

6. General construction and maintenance procedures for problem-solving irrigation delivery system, vehicle and equipment repairs

7. Report writing and data compilation

8. First Aid and CPR

9. Automotive mechanic experience is desired, but not required

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

1. Must have High School Diploma or GED equivalent required

2. Six (6) months of experience in the fields of natural resources management
