Seasonal Assistant Educator
POSITION SUMMARY
The Bay Area Discovery Museum is seeking a Seasonal Assistant Educator to join our Learning & Museum Experience team! This role plays an essential role in providing a memorable, engaging, welcoming, and safe experience for all museum visitors.
The Seasonal Assistant Educator is a part of the public face of the museum, supporting playful learning experiences, programs and environments for families who participate in the museum’s onsite experiences. Seasonal Assistant Educators bring an interest in and commitment to learning, and a love for shaping the growth and development of young children and their caregivers. The Assistant Educator role is a wonderful way to explore the fields of museum education and early childhood education.
This entry-level position pays a rate of $21.00/hour**. This position is an onsite, seasonal, temporary full-time role that works a Wednesday-Sunday or Thursday-Monday schedule (the Museum is closed on Tuesdays), depending on the candidate's availability. This seasonal position is currently only for a set period from May through August.
This position is predominantly a public facing role. All museum positions require proof of up-to-date COVID vaccination.
**Bilingual candidates (fluent in English and Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese) will earn $22.05/hour.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Learning and Program Support
- Ensures all indoor and outdoor learning environments are clean, tidy, and well-stocked with materials and props; ensures tools and equipment are clean and in good working order;
- Replenishes and refreshes spaces throughout the day to ensure an exceptional visitor experience;
- Documents and communicates repair, maintenance, and material supply issues to appropriate staff members; prepares tools and materials; assists with materials/supplies inventory organization, as needed.
- Facilitates and supports playful learning for young children and their caregivers.
- Supports museum opening and closing routines and protocols to ensure spaces are clean and ready for the next day.
- Supports program and festival set up and cleanup/breakdown.
- Assists Educators and Lead Educators in delivering programming, as required.
- Supports visitors in Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese, including translation of materials and communication (bilingual staff only).
