We are seeking an experienced and innovative Molecular Diagnostics Research Scientist II with a strong background in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) to join our dynamic R&D team. This role focuses on the development, optimization, and validation of NGS-based assays for clinical diagnostics applications. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of molecular biology, bioinformatics, and clinical assay development processes. This position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive projects from conception through to clinical implementation.
- Design, develop, and validate NGS-based assays for the detection, quantification, and characterization of nucleic acid targets in a clinical diagnostic setting.
- Optimize protocols for DNA/RNA extraction, library preparation, sequencing, and data analysis to improve assay performance and efficiency.
- Conduct rigorous analytical validation studies to establish the performance characteristics of new assays, including sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, precision, and reproducibility.
- Collaborate with bioinformatics scientists to develop and refine data analysis pipelines and ensure the accurate interpretation of sequencing results.
- Stay abreast of technological advancements and emerging trends in NGS and molecular diagnostics to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), validation reports, and regulatory submissions.
- Present findings and progress reports to internal teams, management, and external stakeholders.
- Mentor junior scientists and technicians, providing guidance and support in experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting.
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of post-doctoral experience in a relevant area. Alternatively, a Master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Proven expertise in NGS technologies and their application in molecular diagnostics, including hands-on experience with assay development and validation.
- Strong background in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR, DNA/RNA isolation, and library preparation.
- Experience with bioinformatics tools and software for NGS data analysis.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and quality standards relevant to clinical diagnostics, including CLIA, CAP, and FDA guidelines.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex data to a variety of audiences.
