ROLE
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Scientist to join JUST's Protein, Analytical, & Process Sciences Team. In this role, you will be pivotal in advancing our ongoing research and development endeavors. As a leader in Protein Chemistry, you will engage with a diverse range of projects, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. This position is responsible for protein characterization and method development of protein analyses to support current products and to assist in the development of new products.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct analysis and characterization of proteins and protein mixtures.
- Innovate, validate, and document methods for protein assays. write clear and concise SOPs.
- Understand and implement ingredient formulation principles.
- Facilitate the transition of lab-scale processes into demonstrable pilot-scale experiments.
- Oversee the maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation.
- Summarize, report data, and present work in collaborative meetings to work cross-functionally with other R&D groups.
- Conduct work in a safe manner, consistent with best practices in laboratory safety and environmental stewardship guidelines.
- Perform additional laboratory duties as required to support R&D and company projects.
ATTRIBUTES:
- PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry or a related field with 0-2 years experience, MS with 6+ years experience, or BS with 8+ years experience.
- Knowledge of or experience with a variety of analytical techniques for protein characterization including ELISA, HPLC, GC, FTIR, DSC, and CD.
- FPLC (GE AKTA), gel electrophoresis, UV/Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy.
- Strong background in biochemical and biophysical characterization of proteins.
- Experience in protein purification/separation and characterization.
- Enzymology and kinetics experience is preferred.
- Lab management and method development skills are required.
- Strong critical thinking, time management and organizational skills.
- Experience managing junior lab members is a plus.
- Strong emphasis on attention to detail, ability to maintain accurate records, and an affinity for troubleshooting.
- Mission-driven, self-directed and enthusiastic about collaborating with an inter-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers.

- This is a full-time role based out of our Headquarters in Alameda, CA.
