To underpin our commitment to serve patients, Amgen is expanding the Inflammation Discovery group in South San Francisco to support the therapeutic pipeline. The Inflammation Discovery team is searching for a highly dedicated scientist to perform the discovery, validation, and development of novel therapies for inflammation. You will be an integral member of a dynamic research team, collaborating with research scientists at multiple Amgen sites and working closely with groups in other functional areas, including protein science, in vivo pharmacology, and computational biology.

In this vital role, you will make major scientific laboratory-based contributions to the research goals of the department. You will have access to state-of-the-art technologies and resources, including single-cell omics, proteomics, human genetics, and in vitro and in vivo model systems for translational research.

  • Perform cutting-edge research related to autoimmune diseases.

  • Develop novel immune-modulating therapies using various innovative technologies and approaches.

  • Plan and perform laboratory experiments.

  • Analyze data and maintain laboratory notebooks.

  • Collaborate with other research groups across the inflammation department.

  • Participate in writing manuscripts and publishing them in leading journals.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Doctorate degree OR

  • Masters degree and 4 years of relevant experience OR

  • Bachelors degree and 6 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. degree in an immunology-related field or cell/molecular biology

  • Strong technical skills or expertise in one or more of the following areas: multi-color flow cytometry, complex functional assays using primary cells or cell lines, molecular biology techniques (e.g., construct design, molecular cloning, retro/lentivirus packaging, CRISPR/gene editing), and biochemical assays.

  • Knowledge and experiences in T cell, myeloid, and B cell biology are desired.

  • Good understanding of human genetics and the capability to analyze and interpret omics data.

  • Skills in mouse models of inflammation and autoimmune diseases are needed.

  • Strong ability to independently drive projects and intellectually improve project development.

  • Demonstrated track record of independent critical analysis and scientific achievement in research, exemplified by a strong publication record and/or substantial contributions to a therapeutic development program.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate with multiple teams.
