The Diabetes, Obesity and Complications Therapeutic Area (DOCTA) of Eli Lilly and Company, has a focus on the discovery of biologic, small molecule and genetic therapeutics for the treatment of diabetes, obesity and associated complications. We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual who can help build a highly collaborative, successful drug discovery and development team in the Obesity research group in Cambridge. The successful candidate will leverage their strong In Vivo Pharmacology background and complementary laboratory skills to play a critical role in supporting discovery efforts and established pipeline projects with an emphasis on anti-obesity therapeutics. You will be responsible for setting up critical capabilities in the laboratory setting and working with other scientists within and across departments to achieve project and department goals.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Plan and independently complete In Vivo experiments to support preclinical characterization and evaluation of targets/pathways that regulate muscle mass, body composition, and energy balance.
  • Perform assessments of skeletal muscle function In Vivo, in situ, and/or ex vivo.
  • Perform routine rodent handling, dosing and small animal surgeries, including but not limited to parenteral routes of administration, osmotic pump implantation and other minor surgeries, as well as tissue collection.
  • Perform molecular and biochemical assessments on ex vivo samples in collaboration with colleagues in other departments.
  • Function independently, work within a team-oriented lab environment and work within cross-functional project teams.
  • Requirement for accurate record keeping, independent data analysis, and reporting of data in written and oral formats. Will perform work in full compliance with Lilly Research Policies and complete all required training activities in the timeframe specified.
Minimum qualifications:
  • B.S. and/or M.S. in biology or a closely related field
  • 3+ years of laboratory experience, preferably in an industrial setting
Additional Skills/Preferences
  • A background in muscle physiology and metabolism, and/or energy balance regulation and metabolic disease is a plus.
  • Experience with skeletal muscle collection and processing of tissues for histological and imaging techniques is a plus.
  • Support the implementation of new assay technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams and projects
  • Strong communication skills and experience presenting data in a team environment
