The Position

The Nucleic Acid Reagent Technologies team within the Reagent Research and Design Chapter Area in Pleasanton, CA at Roche Diagnostics Solutions is seeking a talented and motivated Scientist to support the development of reagents for nucleic acid amplification and detection technologies. The qualified candidate will join a cross functional team of scientists.

Your Opportunity

As Scientist II you works under general supervision to conduct and monitor laboratory experiments utilizing established and published procedures, and technical and theoretical understanding. You are making recommendations to resolve problems encountered during experimental procedures and assuming responsibility for their accuracy, quality, and timeliness. You also present your results and get to important conclusions to contribute to Roche's end goal of "Doing now what patients need next".

Also, you are:

  • Analyzing experimental data using various data analysis software and/or applying quantitative methods.
  • Accountable for your electronic notebook documentation, ensuring experimental methods and results are recorded according to established formats in a timely and accurate way. You will be forming conclusions, and documenting improvements using your technical writing skills.
  • Communicating results with reports and presentations. You will keep your supervisor/project leader informed of project status or significant findings
  • Participating in routine lab maintenance, lab safety, ISO, and QSR implementation. You may troubleshoot issues related to instrumentation.
  • Knows and effectively uses the broad concepts of a particular field or specialization to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity. Keeps informed of trends and developments in area of scientific responsibility.
  • All the work you are performing follows the established internal safety guidelines and procedures, and as specified by appropriate external regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA).

Who you are

  • You hold a Bachelor's degree in Biological/Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field as minimally required. Master's degree is preferred.
  • You bring 2 years of relevant industry experience as minimally required. 4 years of experience is preferred.

Behaviors, competencies, and qualities of the ideal Scientist II

  • Is proficient in sample preparation, DNA/RNA extraction, pre-analytics, PCR oligo design, PCR assay design, qPCR, other standard molecular biology techniques
  • Is proficient in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses

The expected salary range for this position based on California is 64,700 - 120,100 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
