Scientific Writer/Editor


Chippewa Government Solutions (CGS), a Sault Tribe Inc. (STI) Federal company, is hiring an experienced Scientific Writer/Editor to support the Influenza Division of the Center for Disease Control, in Atlanta, Georgia. The incumbent will provide computational biology support and bioinformatics services to support division laboratory data management and analysis activities.  Reports to the Project Manager and Deputy Project Manager.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Plan and implement document draft, review, and revision cycles for multiple concurrent projects
  • Collaborate with research scientists to develop data presentation approaches for specific manuscripts
  • Develop clinical study protocols and protocol amendments
  • Edit contributed or solicited article manuscripts, write additional information or rewrite portions of the manuscript, ensuring that it reflects logical, sequential organization, contains correct grammar, syntax, spelling, and punctuation, and conforms to publication style and format, but retaining, to the maximum degree possible, the author's unique writing style and methods of expression
  • Review/edit scientific documents for content/language
  • Communicate regularly with collaborating scientists
  • Writing assignments often involve departures from commonly accepted theories or methods in the subject matter field and require substantial analysis to present convincing evidence of new findings or to present accurate and critical information
  • Prepare for publication written materials that explain and interpret complex scientific research
  • Establish and maintain complete project management file for each writing or editing assignment
  • Plan, write, and edit manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, as well as abstracts, posters, book chapters, and scientific presentations, clinical and scientific protocols
  • Read and study current literature on relevant subjects. Participate in producing scientific publications to be available in the open literature
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

 

Supervisory/Management Authority:

This position has no supervisory or management authority.

 

Education & Experience: 

  • BA, BS, or MS and approximately 
  • 6 years of experience. Experience with scientific writing and editing scientific media. Viral/Influenza experience is a plus.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to edit scientific copy and writing on scientific issues
  • Must be able to present work in a variety of formats
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven writing knowledge with user guides, testing manuals, technical documentation, and/or progress reports for product development
  • Proven skill with editing scientific copy or writing on scientific issues for the news media, industry journals, or other similar organizations
  • Proven writing ability in that subject or a similar field

 

Work Environment:

Work will be performed in a climate-controlled office setting on a secure government facility.
