Description
The Scientific Programmer III will be responsible for providing technical and scientific expertise to
support Archive Implementation and Maintenance. This includes developing and implementing software
solutions to ensure the integrity and usability of environmental data over the entire lifecycle. The ideal
candidate will be skilled in programming and have a strong understanding of data management and
archive processes. Additionally, the candidate should have excellent communication skills to interact
with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop software solutions to support archive implementation and maintenance
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to gather and implement archive
requirements
Participate in Data Set Readiness Reviews to ensure NCEI is prepared to ingest and archive new
and updated archive requests
Maintain and update archive documentation and upload to the Archive Document Library
Provide technical support to other members of the team as needed
Required Skills /Education/ Certifications & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
5+ years of experience in scientific programming and data management
Strong skills in Python and/or Java programming languages
Experience with data storage and retrieval systems, including SQL and NoSQL databases
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Skills:
Experience with cloud computing platforms, such as Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure
Knowledge of metadata standards and best practices for data stewardship
Familiarity with data visualization tools, such as Tableau or D3.js
