Position Overview:
BerganKDV is seeking an entrepreneurial spirited Controller, who has a passion for being THE utility player for clients ranging from $10-25MM or 30-100 employees in size. Someone who brings an excitement for the full spectrum of Accounting and Finance duties to help our clients solve their issues and provide key support in their ongoing operations.
The Controller will be responsible for assisting the Outsourced School Services Division (Charter) of the Financial Accounting and Advisory Services Team - FAAST. The job requires optimizing production and service with standardized processes while ensuring consistency and quality.
Responsibilities:

• Prepare monthly financial reports, including:
  • Update accruals and other manual adjustments for monthly financial reports
  • Analyze monthly financial reports and give clients feedback
  • Update and review cash flow statements on a monthly basis
  • Update and write executive summary for financials & prepare financial report
  • Review and analyze year-to-date financial data and amend budget as necessary
• Update and enter Average Daily Membership (ADM) in MDE's system
• Prepare bank reconciliations
• Review and submit sales & use tax filings
• Review all funding sources for accuracy
• Attend finance committee/board/client budget meetings
• Present financial reports to finance committee/board/client budget meetings
• Review cash accounts to ensure bank accounts are fully collateralized
• Annual Audit Preparation
  • Work as the liaison between the auditors and the School and BerganKDV teams
  • Review and record prior year over/under State and Federal accruals
  • Manage, review and record year-end state aid receivables
  • Assist Charter Schools with sending audit reports & contracts to MDE
  • Manage year-end conflict of interest forms & bank confirmations
  • Tie out lease aid approval letter to Building Lease Cost
• Manage and assist charter schools with their lease aid applications
• Other various tasks related to this job category

Qualifications:

• Associate of Science Degree in Accounting or equivalent job experience is required
• At least 4 years of experience
• Familiarity and comfort with multiple accounting systems - background with Skyward and SMART Finance is preferred
• Experience delegating work and maintaining client relationships
• Strong analytical, communication, and general business acumen
• Ability to multi-task and readily adapt to new situations/issues
