PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The School Safety Liaison will provide leadership and guidance in the development and implementation of effective School Safety, and security plans. This position will work closely with school district administrators, staff, and local law enforcement to identify and address safety, and security risks and concerns, and to develop policies and procedures to ensure the safety, and security of students, staff throughout Westwood Community School District.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as criminal justice, public safety, or emergency management is preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in School Safety, law enforcement, or emergency management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines related to School Safety, and security.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide training and support to district staff on safety, and security procedures, emergency response protocols, and crisis management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive in high-pressure situations.
  • Familiarity with relevant technology, such as security systems and communication tools.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
  • Know relevant research and effective practices in School Safety, school security, and other related areas.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, local law enforcement, and emergency management agencies to develop, implement, and update safety protocols, emergency response plans, and crisis management procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety and security assessments of the school premises and district facilities to identify vulnerabilities and areas of improvement.
  • Oversee safety drills, including fire drills, lockdown drills/scenarios, and evacuation exercises, to ensure that students and staff are well-prepared for emergencies.
  • Provide training and support to district & school staff on safety, and security procedures, emergency response protocols, and crisis management.
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement, emergency responders, and other community stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and effective response to emergencies.
  • Serve as a resource for district staff, parents, and community members on matters related to School Safety, and security.
  • Monitor and stay current with federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines related to School Safety, and security.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with local, state, and federal agencies involved in School Safety, and security.
  • Serve as a liaison between local emergency management coordinators, the local fire marshal, and the mental health commission, located within Wayne County.
  • Participate in district needs/risk assessments and planning to implement prevention programs related to School Safety; support communications with parents and legal guardians and the community about School Safety
  • Compile data to measure the outcomes and performance related to School Safety plans, School Safety training, and other School Safety measures.
  • Inventory best practices, programs, and services offered by other organizations; identify gaps in available services and develop plans to meet those needs.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
