Summary

Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas is seeking applicants for a full‐time position as Assistant Professor in the School of Health Professions (SHP) to teach graduate-level foundational science courses for Health Professions students. Initial teaching responsibilities will include serving as Course Director and teaching in the Pharmacology course series, teaching in the Clinical Biochemistry course, and teaching in the Physiology course series. Subsequent teaching responsibilities will include serving as Course Director for the Physiology course series and Clinical Biochemistry course. Additional expectations would be to collaborate on the planning and teaching of research methods courses for Health Professions students, all of whom are required to complete a thesis or dissertation. This is a teaching position within the School of Health Professions although effort toward scholarship/research will be expected and could include the scholarship of teaching and learning. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and energetic individual who is ready to develop and apply innovations in teaching and evaluation in a highly collaborative environment.   

 

The faculty member will lead the general organization, development, and delivery of foundational sciences courses within the School of Health Professions

Job Duties
  • Direct and coordinate the Pharmacology course series for students in the Physician Assistant MS program and coordinate with instructors covering pharmacology units in the Nurse Anesthesia DNP program.   
  • Contribute to teaching in the Clinical Biochemistry course for students in the Nurse Anesthesia and Physician Assistant programs.   
  • Contribute to shared understanding and instruction related to research methods and contribute to the understanding and use of statistical approaches and analyses.   
  • Review and revise curricula to ensure content and delivery are consistently of high quality and are up‐to‐date and clinically relevant.   
  • Ensure up‐to‐date revision of syllabi, course descriptions, and course criteria.   
  • Collaborate with program leadership and faculty members to ensure course contents align with accreditation standards and provide the appropriate conceptual foundation for clinical practice.   
  • Coordinate with other course instructors and Course Directors to identify opportunities for horizontal and vertical integration of material.   
  • Establish and assess student learning outcomes.   
  • Utilize multiple instructional and assessment strategies to communicate concepts and ensure learning.   
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement to ensure educational excellence.   
  • Contribute to the faculty voice pertaining to personnel, budget, and space planning.   
  • Contribute to preparation of educational and outcomes reports when requested by
  • administration.   
  • Participate in scholarship/research in the faculty member's areas of interest and in collaboration with School of Health Professions and/or the broader Baylor College of Medicine faculty community.   
  • Actively promote professionalism and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Participate in faculty service activities, such as service on School and College committees.   
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD degree in Pharmacology, Physiology, Biochemistry, or related field (required).   
  • Postdoctoral experience focused on research and/or teaching (preferred).   
  • Prior teaching experience in pharmacology, physiology, and/or biochemistry (required).   
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including evidence of the ability to build successful relationships with student populations.   
  • Strong computer skills (i.e., software, analytical, and report writing skills).
