Position Summary:

The primary location of this position is on the main Cullowhee, NC campus.Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
The College of Education and Allied Professions is accepting applications for a School Nurse (RN) / School Nurse Extender (LPN) position at The Catamount School, a 6-8th grade school operated by Western Carolina University in Jackson County, NC. This is a 32 hours per week, 11 months per year position which is partially federally funded. Continued employment is contingent upon funding availability.
The School Nurse / School Nurse Extender will function under the supervision of the Health Services Coordinator to provide school nursing services for the Catamount School. The successful candidate will be uniquely qualified with skills in preventive health, health assessment, collaborative planning, and knowledge of community resources. The candidate must hold current, unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in North Carolina.
1. Provide direct health services to Catamount school students including medication administration, health assessment, injury and illness care, and chronic disease management.2. Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases through preventive immunization programs, early detection, surveillance and reporting of contagious diseases.3. Develop and implement a health plan for individual students.4. Maintain, evaluate, and interpret cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students.5. Plan and implement school health management protocols for the child with chronic health problems, including the administration of medication.6. Work with Community of Care team to develop procedures and provide for crises intervention for acute illness, injury and emotional disturbances.7. Provide information on health to students, staff and families.8. Coordinate school and community health activities and serve as a liaison person between the home, school, and community. Makes home visits as needed.9. Serve as a resource person to school personnel on health-related matters. Participate selectively in classroom instruction under the supervision of the teacher.Report regularly to the Health Services Coordinator, Principal and Superintendent on school.
