About the Training Program: The Montebello Unified School District will provide training (unpaid) for eligible candidates at the discretion of the Transportation Department. Training will consist of the following areas: SCHOOL BUS operation, applicable Motor Vehicle Code sections, First Aid/CPR review, and applicable sections of the Education Code. Those who qualify for the TRAINING PROGRAM will receive an e-mail inviting them to the training, scheduled for February 26, 2024. The TRAINING PROGRAM will continue throughout March 31, 2024. Second opportunity to enter the TRAINING PROGRAM will be schedule in April.

Approximate out of pocket cost for the trainee is $220.00 (ie. DMV, CHP, Dept. of Justice Fees)

Driver Opportunities:Trainees who successfully complete all portions of the TRAINING PROGRAM will have the opportunity to submit their complete application and participate in the recruitment process to be considered for a SCHOOL BUS DRIVER position with the Montebello Unified School District. Starting salary is $22.19 per hour.

Substitute Driver Opportunities: Trainees who successfully complete all portions of the TRAINING PROGRAM will be considered for a substitute position with the Montebello Unified School District. Starting salary is $18.53 per hour.

Basic Function: Operates a SCHOOL BUS, wheel chair bus, or passenger van to transport students to and from home, school or other District sites; assists students with exceptional needs in accessing and departing from buses and vans; oversees the loading, seating and unloading of students from buses and vans; provides escort/safe passage across streets and roadways; Performs emergency first aid on students, including CPR when required and in accordance with District policies and procedures; Performs required maintenance and safety checks and inspections on assigned vehicles; prepares and submits inspection reports; and performs related duties as assigned.

TRAINING REQUIRMENTS:

Education and Experience:One year of experience in the operation of a motor vehicle. Some experience working with school-aged children is desirable

Required Documents: Must posses a valid Class (C) California Driver License, valid automobile insurance, and a recent K-4 (within 30 days) issued through the DMV. Proof of Driver License, Automobile Insurance, and recent K-4 MUST be attached to application. Failure to attach any of these documents will result in disqualification from consideration.
