Job Title: School-Based Prevention Specialist

DCCCA is recruiting for two full-time School-Based Prevention Specialists to provide students with information aimed at reducing the use of substances and increasing mental health supports, with the overall goals of increasing student ability to resist pressures to use substances and reducing drug use misperceptions. One position will office primarily in Baldwin City Public Schools and the other in Eudora Public Schools. Essential Functions
- Assists in the development of curriculum for the purpose of ensuring age-appropriate research supported material that demonstrate the hazards of drugs and the skills students need to cope with drugs in their environment
- Identifies students as at risk for drugs and alcohol involvement for the purpose of providing support, intervention, and referral, as appropriate
- Interacts with students (e.g., role playing, interactive activities, guest speakers, etc.) for the purpose of substantiating information on the effects of substance misuse prevention and mental health promotion
- Monitors students participating in programs for the purpose of documenting activities pre/post program and complying with grant requirements
- Facilitates evidence-based training related to substance misuse prevention and mental health promotion for students, staff, and community partners
- Networks with community resources, law enforcement, teachers, and parents for the purpose of conveying information to be used for enforcement, prevention, and treatment of drug related problems
- Performs record keeping and clerical functions for the purpose of providing records/materials necessary for program success, including the development of monthly progress reports
- Presents information to community groups, churches, teachers/administrators, and parents (e.g. workshops, parent information nights, sponsors youth clubs, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring awareness of curriculum and methods of delivering information on prevention program to students, parents, and the community
- High School diploma or equivalent, required. Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
- Training and experience in community organizing, substance misuse prevention, mental health promotion, or human services, preferred.
