Under the direction of Hughston Surgical Center management, the employee performs functions appropriate to the position, and in compliance with HSC policies, procedures, and protocols. Functions include surgery scheduling and verification of insurance.
Position Responsibilities
Receive calls and/or faxes from physicians and clinic staff to schedule a date for surgery, obtain demographic and insurance information from physician’s office or from Athena.
Verify all patient insurances.
Call patients to verify their appointments and make arrangements for payments (ensure the patient is aware that their payment is due on day of surgery)
Ensure all authorizations have been obtained.
Answer telephone calls, route calls, take messages as appropriate, and receive faxed information.
Assist patients in understanding their insurance benefits.
Maintain a working knowledge of HSC’s policy and procedures on scheduling processes.
Monitor Athena for surgery schedules and compare daily list to HSC’s surgery schedule (to ensure cases are not missed).
Create all charts and organize them appropriately.
Assist or serve as a backup for the Front Desk Registration staff to check in/register and collect co-pays due on day of surgery.
Working knowledge of alarms to facilitate communication in emergency situations.
Prepare and email daily surgery schedule to ancillary staff while hiding the HIPPA items.
Ensure release of information and compliance of HIPPA regulations are followed.
Oversee specimens for pickup daily.
Perform registration functions to include collecting copayments, posting patient payments, reviewing/scanning patient charts into the EMR, and distributing pathology results to HSC management or staff.
Experience:
Required:
One (1) year of surgical/medical office, scheduling and insurance experience
Education:
Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Special Qualifications:
Required:
- Knowledge of Microsoft office suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Must possess excellent customer service skills in person or over the phone.
- Excellent organizational skills
