Weyerhaeuser is seeking individuals who are committed to safety, have a positive attitude, excellent work ethic and a desire to work in a manufacturing environment.  We are currently looking for a Scaler/Raw Materials Quality Attendant to join our Elkin, NC OSB team.  

We offer excellent wages, starting pay is $22.53 per hour, and benefit package which includes paid vacation, 401K plan, life insurance options as well as medical, dental, and vision coverage.

The Scaler/Raw Materials Quality Attendant is responsible for receiving, scaling, and inventory of wood purchases. The Scaler is also responsible for entering weights into the computer system and for directing wood to the log yard for offloading. The Scaler is the first point of contact for visitors, truckers, vendors, suppliers, and others who come to the mill and is responsible for keeping a time log for all such parties who are on site. Included in the duties for the Scaler is to review the general safety requirements for all truck drivers coming onto the site to pick up finished goods or fines or to deliver wood, hog fuel, resin, wax, caustic, diesel and any other materials necessary for the operation of the mill. Persons working in this position are responsible for directing emergency response to areas in the mill as needed and for controlling traffic into and out of the mill during an emergency situation. The Scaler is also the site telephone operator and is responsible for directing telephone calls received to the proper parties as needed. The Scaler completes work orders in the appropriate computer software, enters work requests as needed, and completes other duties as assigned.

Key Functions:

  • Weighs, visually checks loads for quality and specification accuracy.
  • Records and communicates load errors
  • Interfaces with contract trucking staffs on daily basis
  • Verifies accuracy of data
  • Processes manual tickets
  • Participates in the development of written processes
  • Runs and distributes reports
  • Will routinely use Microsoft Office applications and LIMS, Weigh Wiz and SAP
  • Will do general clean-up of scale house and surrounding area

The Scaler will demonstrate the ability to complete each task assigned, follow all prescribed safety procedures, and operate at a level that supports mill production, quality, and environmental goals. The Scaler must complete all required documentation each shift and required month end tasks. Key equipment for the Scaler is the site CB radio system, the company two-way radio, the computer and associated software and hardware, and the telephone.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to work safely and follow all company safety policies and procedures and hold others accountable for following those same policies and procedures
  • Ability and willingness to work any shift, including weekends, overtime and holidays as needed
  • Good teamwork skills, including the willingness and ability to work in diverse groups
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including the willingness and ability to interact with contractors
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, which includes willingness to lift 2-20 pounds regularly, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, climb steps and ladders, work from heights, work in small and restricted areas and stand or walk for 2-3 hours at a time for 10 hours
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions; (Hot/Cold, Wet/Dry)
  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
