Scale House Operator

The Scale House Operator plays a critical role in the operation of a scrap metal recycling facility by performing a variety of administrative and operational duties, ensuring the accurate weighing, recording, and reporting of scrap metal loads while providing excellent customer service and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

The right candidate will be energetic, outgoing, and comfortable working in a dynamic setting with the ability to stay focused even in the midst of distractions and interruptions.

Responsibilities:

• Weighing and Recording: Operate and maintain electronic scales to weigh inbound and outbound scrap metal loads. Accurately record weight data into the computer system, including the type of material, weight, and customer information.
• Cash Handling Experience: Process payment for inbound purchases and balance daily cash drawer.
• Desire to learn: Grading and pricing all inbound commodities based on material type and quality, using industry standards and guidelines.
• Customer Service: Provide courteous and efficient service to customers, including answering questions, directing traffic, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
• Data Management: Process required DMV paperwork. Enter, review, and maintain data in the computer system, including daily reports, customer records, and transactions
• Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including maintaining clean and organized work areas, identifying and addressing safety hazards, and enforcing safety policies.
• Communication: Communicate effectively with management, co-workers, and customers, including reporting any issues or concerns to appropriate personnel.
• Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by management, including assisting with yard operations and administrative tasks.

Requirements:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: 1-2 years of experience in an industrial or administrative role preferred.
• Skills: Strong communication, math, organizational, and computer skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
• Availability: Must be available to work flexible hours between 7:00 am-5:30 pm
• Licensing: Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
