DESCRIPTION:
The Dental Assistant supports the Dental Clinic. Supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment room, patient, instruments, and materials; passing instruments and materials; performing procedures in compliance with the dental practice act (taking dental radiography and infection control prevention). Job responsibilities are to be done in a timely manner with quality and quantity results. Performs other duties as assigned.
Schedule: 10 hour days, 4 days week.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DELIVERABLES:
- Prepares treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
- Prepares patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, and draping patient.
- Inquiring about patient's medical history and taking blood pressure and pulse; Provides information to patients and employees by answering questions and requests.
- Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist's access; suctioning; passing instruments.
- Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient's mouth; Taking digital radiographs (x-ray); Taking impressions of patient's teeth for study casts (model of teeth).
- Providing patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as placement of restoration (filling).
- Educating patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health; (e.g. tooth brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling).
- Documents dental care services by charting in patient electronic dental records: Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques
- Maintains dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies and verifying receipt of supplies.
- Conserves dental resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results; Performing office management tasks that often require the use of compute
- Communicating with patients and suppliers/dental lab (e.g., scheduling appointments, answering the telephone, ordering supplies and dental lab inquiry/correspondence)
- Helping to provide direct patient care in all dental specialties, including oral surgery, pediatric dentistry; Assist provider on order management such as referrals to outside dental specialty.
- Ability to collaborate teach, support and function in a teaching organization that builds, coaches, and embraces interns and residency programs. Must demonstrate a passion for the team and have the ability to consistently work with rotating doctors, residents, and interns, while continuously building a trusting, safe, patient centered workplace.

- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Dental Terminology required. Graduate from ADA-accredited dental assisting program, Dental Assistant certificate required.
- Certification: Current CPR, Compliance with state dental practice requirements: X-ray certification, 8-hour OSHA/Infection Control training. Valid CA Driver's License. Must have Hepatitis B series completed. As a requirement of this position, you must receive EPIC certification for the module you have been hired into.
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience required. Two (2) years preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. Digital X-ray and Electronic Dental Record Knowledge required.
- Ability to answer phones, communicate with patients and staff. Must be able to perform the everyday tasks (typing, assisting, walking, etc.) required of position.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Must not now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visas.
