Job Summary:
The SBA Loan Officer is responsible for the growth and management of the Bank’s SBA loan portfolio. The officer will oversee the loan process from origination to close, ensuring compliance with the Bank’s policies and federal regulations.
Job Function
- Originate SBA loans in accordance with the Bank’s lending policies and SBA standard operating procedures.
- Analyze and evaluate the financial statements and credit history of loan applicants. Make decisions based on a thorough understanding of SBA lending requirements and a strong foundation in credit analysis.
- Navigate and comprehend the complexities of SBA 7(a) and 504 loan programs to provide accurate and relevant financial solutions to small businesses.
- Apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to assess financial viability and perform cash flow analysis.
- Prepare and present loan proposals with detailed collateral analysis to the loan committee.
- Provide superior customer services, building and maintaining relationships with clients. This included clearly communicating loan requirements, processes, and assisting clients with their queries.
- Exhibit excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Maintain meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all documentation and data.
- Utilize a variety of banking software and computer systems efficiently to process loan applications and monitor the loan portfolio.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or a related field
- Proven background in SBA lending practices and procedures
- Proficiency in financial analysis, including understanding of GAAP
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Strong customer service orientation
- Proficient in the use of computers and banking software, and related technologies
Professional Experience & Requirements
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in commercial lending (C&I and CRE), with proven expertise in underwriting and loan approval processes.
- At least 2 years’ tenure in commercial banking or commercial real estate loan production is highly desirable.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a credit approval role within a commercial banking environment is preferred.
- A commitment to ongoing education in SBA regulations and the wider banking industry is essential.
- Previous supervisory experience of 3 to 5 years is advantageous.
