Job Summary:

Leads the sanitation team and support sanitation excellence throughout the plant. Manage the team to ensure cleaning of equipment and building structure meets food safety requirements as required by FSQA, USDA/FDA regulations and meet customer quality and safety standards. Ensure sanitation activities are executed per SSOPs, corrective actions are taken as needed to address sanitation deficiencies and that proactive actions are taken to prevent sanitation issues.

Essential Job Functions:

a. Accountable for verifying that all sanitation activities and practices are of sound design, cleaning of all processing equipment and building structure is performed as intended in a timely manner and are properly documented.

b. Responsible for all aspects of department safety and safe practices.

c. Ensures low incidence of pre op NRs, and microbial swabbing failures while scoring well on internal and external sanitation audits.

d. Attends weekly meetings with USDA to discuss sanitation findings and resolve ongoing issues.

e. Responsible for updates and maintenance of Master Sanitation Schedule.

f. Serve as key participant in oversight of plant pest control program.

g. Collaborate closely with maintenance department on repair requests and project timings.

h. Provide feedback on the performance of sanitation based on the verification/validation results, so that corrections are made when necessary.

i. Develop and foster a strong working relationship with other departments.

j. Ability to lead and motivate a diverse workforce through training, coaching, and mentoring.

k. Make recommendations for facility and department capital/expense improvements.

l. Demonstrate proficiency in leadership, problem solving, and ability to influence others to be successful.

m. Apply principles of food safety, microbiology, sanitary equipment design, HACCP, root cause analysis, risk assessment, regulatory compliance and quality control.

Minimum Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science or related field from an accredited college or university and 5+ years of progressive experience in the professional sanitation or meat industries and processes; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required.
  • Knowledge of USDA, FSIS, HACCP, SSOP, FDA requirements.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret sanitation guidelines, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Access, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar/line graphs.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Adaptable, flexible yet effective in time and scheduling management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

Working Conditions:

  • While performing duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, squat, kneel, walk, and perform repetitive motions. This individual may be required to push and pull, climb, balance, reach and lift.
  • Ability to pick up to 55 pounds of weight occasionally.
  • Ability to work in a wide range of temperature (0F to 90F).
  • There is moderate level of noise while operating commercial cleaning equipment.
  • Be available for the team 24/7.
