SANE/Forensic Nurse
This position is partly funded by contracts and is subject to annual renewal.
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The SANE/ Forensic nurse is part of a mobile team available to respond to Brevard County area hospitals or to the Women’s Center Exam Center to conduct forensic examinations/evidence collection for victims of sexual assault.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

Duties/Responsibilities
- Travel to hospitals within Brevard County or Women’s Center Exam Center.
- Perform head-to-toe nursing assessments and forensic examinations on sexual assault victims 13 years old and up.
- Obtain forensic evidence that which includes photographs and documentation of wounds.
- Offer preventative treatment for STDs when appropriate.
- Collect blood, urine.
- Provide referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up
- Participate in legal proceedings.
- Must be available to take at least 48 hours of on call shifts a month. Days, Evenings,
Weekends and Holidays are available.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Compassion for victims of sexual abuse
- Self-motivated/self-directed learners- someone who loves to learn
- Detail oriented
- Passionate about excellent quality care to sexual assault victims and their families
- Reliable, dependable and punctual
- Reside in Brevard County
- Able to respond to Exam Center or hospitals within Brevard County within 1 hour
- Must hold current licensure as a SANE Nurse and be able to maintain training and licensure as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Registered nurse (RN or ARNP) with an active Florida nursing license.
- BCLS certified
- 40 hour SANE Course is required (online training available at nurse’s expense). You will be provided on the job training and orientation, as well as ongoing educational opportunities.
- Must have 2 years of nursing experience as an RN
- Must complete 10- hour Advocacy Core training (ACT) prior to employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands include sitting or standing for extended periods of time, bending, traveling to outside meetings, regular use of standard office equipment such as the telephone, copier, fax and computer. Demands also involve protracted concentration. Reliable transportation is required. Job involves frequent interactions with internal and external customers, and routinely intense public contact. This position involves handling of and exposure to blood, urine, bodily fluids, and possible pathogens.
