PRODUCTION EMPLOYEE (non-exempt) 03/2017

Qualifications required:

  • Mechanical aptitude and demonstrated ability to understand and work with common power tools.
  • Three years of experience in production, manufacturing or construction.

Qualifications desired:

  • Powder Coating experience.
  • Industrial painting experience.

Purpose:

The Production Employee is responsible for preparing individual jobs for Powder Coating and/or sandblasting, including doing the actual Powder Coating or sandblasting. Most of the work is done in shop buildings but a significant amount may be done outside in the shop yard as well.

Assignments are received from the Manager or President. Any problems, questions, or issues will be referred to the manager or president for clarification or resolution.

Production employees have specific responsibilities of production, record keeping, maintaining vehicles and equipment, product education and training, safety training, housekeeping, and miscellaneous duties as required by the manager or president.

Production employees are expected to maintain a neat and clean appearance, and to treat all others with decency and respect at all times, regardless of mood or disposition.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lift up to 75lbs and carry for long distances (over 100’) frequently.
  • Climb ladders and/or crawl into confined spaces as job duties demand.
  • Use manual finger dexterity of both hands to feel for imperfections and process material accordingly.
  • Use sight to visually inspect surfaces for imperfections, noticing subtle variations of color, gloss and texture.
  • Ensure equipment is fueled, serviced, and ready for operation prior to beginning of workday production and notify manager of any required repairs as they are discovered.
  • Professional and prompt execution of regular daily/weekly or specially assigned duties.
  • Assist customers either loading or unloading in the yard.
  • Adhere to the daily production schedule, including working overtime if necessary, and promptly inform manager of any suggested changes or deviations prior to doing so.
  • Review Work Order information and check material for accuracy and completeness before beginning job.
  • Handle all material in a safe manner.
  • Complete Powder Coating or sandblasting assignments as indicated on work order promptly and efficiently.
  • Check for proper outcome (quality assurance) of all jobs prior to moving material to the next work station and/or prior turning in the work order as “completed”.
  • Accurately record times for each step of production and promptly inform manager of complications to this process.
  • Clean up all trash from work area prior to completion of work or end of day procedures.
  • Remove all noticeable dust and hand prints from materials prior to delivering to customer.

  • Immediately notify manager of any injuries sustained while on the job and submit to drug testing policy.
  • Ensure doors and gates are closed and locked when leaving at the end of each day.

Secondary Job Functions:

  • Return extra or unused material such as tools and hooks to their assigned storage places.
  • Read instruction manuals for all equipment before attempting to operate or service.
  • Oil and lubricate all carts and other equipment when needed and document on maintenance checklists.
  • Clean carts and hooks/cables of excess powder to maintain proper grounding for Powder Coating process.
  • Refrain from smoking in warehouse.
  • Place trash in proper containers and take initiative to empty containers into dumpster when seeing that they are full.
  • Assist in unloading or loading of trucks when requested to do so by manager or president.
  • Perform any variety of tasks as requested by manager or president in a timely manner.
  • Attend and participate in all required and requested safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Watch designated training videos when requested.
  • Learn to identify powder defects and blasting profile grades.
  • Learn more advanced information about powder, substrates and reviewing new products when appropriate.
  • Become familiar with First Aid and medical emergency techniques.
  • Treat teammates, customers and management/president with honesty, courtesy and respect.

Targets and Performance:

The production employee reports to the Production manager or directly to the President. Performance Reviews are scheduled at three months, end of probation at six months, and annually thereafter. Some of the key performance standards are listed below.

- Be consistently in attendance during working hours.- Adhere to company policies regarding breaks and lunches- Be willing and able to work overtime, weekends, and split shifts to meet quotas/deadlines.

  • Most of the day will be spend either inside the shop or outside in the shop yard.
  • The work environment is often dusty, and dirty, with potential safety risks.
  • The work environment often includes harsh conditions of extreme heat and cold.
  • The work environment includes the risk of falling objects, eye injuries, fire, cuts from sharp objects and edges, electrical shock, lifting of heavy objects (75 lbs frequently), and traffic accidents.
  • The work environment is often oily and greasy.
  • All jobs will require coordination and interaction with other employees.
