As a Sales Event Assistant Manager, you are responsible for developing an environment that creates excitement for guests and team members, promoting and retaining a highly skilled work force. The incumbent in this position is responsible for administering the Sales function in accordance with established policies and procedures to ensure achievement of sales and revenue goals and provision of quality service to customers; develops sales leads for group bookings in order to provide Ameristar with business consistent with targeted clients and volume level in restaurants and banquets.
  • Follow up on all inquiries from internal/external guests on catering room needs in both verbal and written communication forms.
  • Book functions and handle appropriate menu planning, room set up and other special needs of guests.
  • Oversee the proper execution of all catering events.
  • Determine blocks for groups with catering needs.
  • Coordinate with pertinent departments regarding needs for events.
  • Bill all charges to appropriate departments/external guest.
  • Provide upcoming events and distribute them to all necessary departments.
  • Develop and monitor departmental and event budgets.
  • Order all supplies.
  • Submit proper notice of events to VP of Hospitality, and his/her designated Manager.
  • Receive all sales leads and inquiries about meeting space.
  • Provides superior guest service by utilizing ACES. Demonstrates ability to positively affect interactions with customers and team members and has the resiliency to deal with difficult guests in all types of business conditions and the ability to work harmoniously with coworkers.
  • Develop an environment that creates excitement for guests and employees, promoting and retaining a highly skilled work force.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment and plans, organizes and controls the delivery of Banquets and Special Events demonstrating positive/constructive leadership behavior.
  • Works with department managers in planning property promotions, special events and reservations to ensure most strategic functions and facilitation of service to guests.
  • Corresponds verbally and in writing with potential and past clients to solicit bookings; meets and entertains prospective clients to encourage their stay.
  • Writes contracts and proposals following solicitation of customers to formally document oral agreements and terms; presents to Vice President of Hospitality.
  • Coordinates with the Hotel to ensure that all rooming lists, deposits, and requests are arranged.
  • Handles site inspections, which includes showing the property to prospective clients to make a good impression leading to sales.
  • Makes personal sales calls and travels to trade shows to produce leads for future business or to maintain good relationships with current clientele.
  • Assesses Customer requests, management plans, needs and objectives.
  • Formulates themes, activities, menus, and attractions designed to ensure event success and property hospitality/entertainment objectives.
  • Communicates and works with guests or property personnel in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Oversees/Coordinates with vendors providing services in support of the event.
  • Formulates, develops, and implements approved policy, procedure, and rules necessary or required for overall program success.
  • Solicit and sell events and collect and post payments.
  • Handles guests, team members, and vendor complaints.
  • Other accountabilities, responsibilities, duties as necessary or required by Vice President of Hospitality.

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from an accredited college or university; or minimum of two years previous supervisory or administrative experience; or combination of education and experience combined.
  • Must have the ability to interact with guests, staff and colleagues and resolve problems and conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, outside contacts, and team members.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Previous experience in Food & Beverage, Hospitality and/or group sales desired.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook programs.
  • Excellent motivational, communication and guest service skills required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in English may also be required.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Employees must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Must successfully complete ServSafe training.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have acceptable driving history as determined by PENN Entertainment's auto insurance carrier.
