Sales Clerk, Museum Store (Part Time)
Purpose
To create an exceptional retail experience by maintaining eye catching displays, locating merchandise, answering inquiries, completing sales transactions, packaging and shipping online orders.
Schedule
Thursday: 1:00 pm – 9:30 pm
Friday: 1:00 pm – 9:30 pm
Saturday: 1:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Sunday: 1:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Accountabilities
Operations – Opens and close the store independently. Provides service to visitors, completes sales transactions, prepares deposits and keeps accurate daily records. Works in both the retail and stockroom environment as assigned.
Sales – Process transactions in a friendly and accurate manner. Take orders over the phone and follow through on any website generated sales by processing purchases, packaging, and shipping merchandise. Understands POS technology and able to perform basic trouble shooting.
Product/Book Knowledge – Possess accurate information regarding product history, function, composition, artist, origin and technique in order to provide helpful guidance to customers. Remain informed of book availability, especially exhibition catalogues and new releases.
Store Environment –Maintain welcoming displays by refilling and replacing stock, straightening books and product, and returning misplaced items to their appropriate places. Help maintain a shopping environment that is safe and clean by ensuring that all floor space, shelves, and glass surfaces are free of debris, dust, and fingerprints. Light cleaning such as vacuuming and dusting may be required.
Information Gathering/Sharing – Knowledge of information provided on product/book cards accompanying the items and able to share with customers. Become familiar with objects in the Museum collection in order to make feasible art connections to products for sale.
Museum Awareness – Aware of any special exhibitions, focus shows, and any special events occurring at the Museum and know where to direct interested visitors.
Inventory– Assist with receiving incoming orders, managing inventory and packaging returns when necessary.
Position Requirements
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one year of retail experience
  • Experience with a computerized point-of-sale is helpful
  • Must be friendly and eager to assist customers and provide helpful information
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written) skills
  • Must be flexible and well-organized
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Salary Grade
Grade Level 1: $15 an hour.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Working conditions are typically that of an office environment.
While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands.


Hours/Travel Expectations
May work nights, weekends, and holidays, if their organization operates extended hours.
