Main Purpose
The role of a Safety Technician is crucial in promoting a safe and healthy work environment, reducing accidents and injuries, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. They work collaboratively with management, employees, and other stakeholders to achieve these objectives. Safety Technician typically involves assisting in the implementation and enforcement of safety policies and procedures within a workplace environment.
Job Location: Mount Pleasant, TN
Shift: Day shift
Compensation: $26.00-$30.00, depending on experience
Essential Functions
- Maintain, update, and communicate all Saint-Gobain/OSHA safety standards and intercompany safety policies.
- Conduct regular inspections of the workplace to ensure good housekeeping practices, and identify potential hazards, and unsafe conditions. This may involve inspecting machinery, equipment, tools, work areas, and employee practices to ensure compliance with established safety standards.
- Conduct safety compliance training for the site. Facilitate weekly safety chat meetings with plant personnel at the direction of the Group Safety Manager.
- Responsible for all site safety-related record-keeping practices.
- Ensure safety equipment inventory management and keep the stock program being managed by the assigned vendor.
- Participate in identifying potential safety hazards and assessing associated risks by conducting routine JSAs on a scheduled basis and make recommendations for corrective action to mitigate risks to the Group Safety Manager.
- Support and coordinate with HR on workers comp claims for all qualifying site-sustained injuries.
- Actively participate in safety committee meetings and contribute to discussions on safety initiatives, policy development, and program improvements.
- Assist in selecting, inspecting, and maintaining safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) in coordination with the Group Safety Manager. This includes ensuring that appropriate PPE is provided to employees and conducting regular inspections to verify its effectiveness.
- Assist with emergency response plans and procedures. This may involve conducting drills, coordinating with emergency services, and providing training to employees on emergency response protocols.
Additional Job Functions
- Manage safety shoe programs and other vendor safety programs.
- Coordinate with Plant Engineering in scheduling required fire protection checks and annual compliance tests/inspections.
- Train and issue OSHA-compliant certifications for all eligible employees in the use of lift trucks.
- Ensure training programs are up to date (Fire/CPR/AED/First aid).
Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Preferred Associate degree or two (2) years of equivalent training or experience to have basic knowledge of the practices, procedures, and regulations associated with industrial safety.
- Two to four (2-4) years of industrial manufacturing experience.
- Core competencies include effective verbal and written communication skills, listening skills, the ability to organize and retrieve information, and to handle people tactfully and effectively in situations involving various educational and employment levels.
- Ability to achieve and maintain various safety certifications from Saint-Gobain and other vendors. Application of this knowledge gained is critical to position and duties.
- Ability to successfully attend and pass CertainTeed Safety training classes.
- The ability to multitask and coordinate several varied activities effectively.
- OSHA 30-hour certification or equivalent.
- First responder certified (CPR, AED, First Aid) preferred.
