JOB TITLE: SCHOOL SAFETY SPECIALIST (BUILDING) (10 MONTH)
SUPERVISOR: BUILDING PRINCIPAL
Summary:
Performs a variety of activities that include but are not limited to monitoring student behavior while providing direction and maintaining order in school's corridors and all areas of the building and grounds.
The role of School Safety Specialist shall focus on ensuring the safety of teachers, students, and other staff in the Mansfield City Schools. The School Safety Specialist works with school administrators, local law enforcement and the School Resource Officer (SRO) to implement preventative programs for student related behavior issues. They should be comfortable with exercising authority, enforcing strict rules, and managing student noncompliance issues. The School Safety Specialist may be exposed to bodily fluids and stressful situations while exercising emotional and physical control of oneself.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Trained or willingness to be trained in crisis intervention techniques (Handle With Care).
- Demonstrated experience in a position requiring the use of independent judgement and discretion.
- Willing to be flexible in the position and hours worked beyond the normal workday.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with students assigned relative to the use of student passes. Excusing only those students who have proper passes issued by the attendance office.
- Monitor student behavior, providing direction.
- Assist in monitoring and supervising all areas of the building and grounds including the cafeteria. Also, assist in monitoring and supervising after-school activities as assigned.
- Report to and work with the school administration relative to student behavior problems.
- Participate in in-service training programs as assigned and as required.
- Abide by the Mansfield City Board of Education policies, rules, and regulations.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as may be assigned by the Building Administration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- The ability to communicate and understand the developmental and age appropriate needs of the students.
- Demonstrate oral and written skills.
- Willingness to participate in in-service programs designed to increase or enhance position skills or requirements.
- Willingness to intervene with student fights to restore order.
Physical Attributes and Demands:
Ability to execute crisis intervention techniques defined by Handle With Care which may require bending, stooping, and physical holds.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a school setting.
