General Description:
The Safety Specialist shall promote the culture, standards, values and working environment as outlined by the Executive Team and will support the development and execution of the safety mission at Kennebec Lumber Company. This position will administer an effective and committed safety culture company wide through promoting strict adherence to all safety policies and procedures. The Safety Specialist will assist with the coordination and execution of all aspects of Safety and compliance for all KLC facilities. The Safety Specialist will work closely with CRM to execute safety practices and guarantee all internal records and external filings are kept up to date at all times. The Safety Specialist will be the point of contact for all Workers Compensation and Workplace injury Management. This position will assist in implementing and executing regular activities and mandatory trainings to educate staff.
Responsibilities:
- Assist as needed in conducting hazard evaluations of jobs and process and perform routine inspections of facilities and operations for unsafe conditions and work practices and make recommendations to reduce/eliminate incident occurrence.
- Maintain safety boards with current and relevant material
- Maintain training library for Safety department
- Assist in distributing weekly hot topics and provide leaders with supporting material
- Online Filing of All Workplace Injuries
- Maintain OSHA 300 log
- Maintain OSHA mock inspection activities and affected employee training
- Injury/Accident Prevention Management, Investigation and Education, including documentation. Accident investigation, follow up, return to work agreements and schedule follow up/accompany employee to doctor appointments as needed.
- Maintain good working relationships with all agencies and follow up as needed on recommendations and /or citations
- Plan, schedule, coordinate training programs for employees such as HAZCOM, Blood borne pathogens, fire protection, etc.
- Assist in managing and maintaining day-to-day EHS programs, conduct new hire Safety Orientation, PPE requirements, etc.
- Deliver Trainings provided by CRM
- Participate, Motivate, Support, and Implement safety practices and culture
- Ensuring the Safety Departments meets all timely filing deadlines
- Develop and maintain efficient electronic record keeping system for all training records
- Maintaining Workers Comp portions of Employee Files in conjunction with Document Control E file procedures
- Yearly review of insurance requirements for facilities specific to Workers Comp
- Frequent Travel between locations
- Keep Emergency evacuation procedures, contacts up to date
- Schedule all Facility audits monthly and execute
- Schedule, communicate and coordinate monthly trainings for all facilities
- Other Duties as Assigned
Requirements:
- Must be proficient in Word, outlook, excel, phone, fax, scanning
- Safety Management or Safety Background preferred
- Medical knowledge/background preferred
- Public Speaking or group training experience necessary
- Ability to work independently and with a team
